I can't comment on all of your D's options but can offer a few suggestions. S attended Walnut Hill and did the summer program the summer before he started as a regular student. It is excellent. However, if your D is a rising senior and has been accepted to Cherubs at Northwestern, that program will be more focused on preparing for college than will Walnut Hill's. If the choice were between the two summer programs, he would suggest Cherubs (much as he credits his HS experience at WHS!). CMU is where he attends college and his reaction would still be to attend Cherubs over CMU's summer program because the number of Cherubs who later were accepted to CMU has been higher than for those who attended CMU's summer program. In part, that's likely to be because the Cherub program is only for rising hs seniors, while the CMU program is for a broader age range of hs students (as are Walnut Hill's and Interlochen's programs). Hope this helps.

does anyone know if MPulse - Musical Theater prog. has sent out rejections yet…saw they opened up applications again for Musical Theater…has anyone heard anything from them?

Lesrenne - We have heard nothing from M-Pulse yet and that posting about them still taking apps has been up for a long time.

just wondering if they are holding off because they didn’t have as many applicants this year. I know their website says that letters will be sent by April 30 but when we went to auditions they said it would likely be earlier. Just wondered if anyone has heard anything…we are anxiously waiting…

D received her MPulse letter on 4/14 last year. They had a similar “extension” wording last year as well. Any idea how many auditioned on 3/7?

There were about 45-50 kids auditioning on 3/7…more girls than boys…of course. Cawrd - Did your D go to MPulse last year…if so, how did she like it?

She attended and absolutely loved it! She learned so much and the faculty was outstanding! She is hoping to have the opportunity to return again this summer–so we’re anxiously awaiting to hear from them.

Great to hear! My D went to Interlochen last summer and loved it! Wanted to go to Mpulse this year…I hate the wait…can only imagine how hard it is to wait for college acceptances!

I know some summer programs send out rejections first…to weed out apps…and then send out the acceptances…I had heard that UofM may have sent out rejections but can’t seem to be able to confirm that…probably bad info. Guess we will just wait and keep our fingers crossed.

It was the audition based program-But Good Luck To you!!!

YES! Thank you for such a cogent response-I have been thinking all along in that direction but couldn’t put the words together in a concise way- My D is a rising Sr and on the older side as well.I think WHill is great, but likely a bit less pre-college. D loves CMU, but there is no audition for the summer program. NW seems best-I think she is holding out for Interlochen, but the same thought holds-Pre College versus great but perhaps not as “college directed”…We’re trying to get this done ASAP-others deserve the spots as well…So thank you for the feedback and wish us (and by that I mean “HER”) luck!!

My D’s friend called to say she received a rejection letter from MPulse’s MT Workshop at least a week ago. Both this girl and my daughter auditioned in person on March 7th. My D has not heard anything.

Interesting that Mpulse rejection letters have been sent already. I just assumed they would send out the acceptances and rejections at the same time.

A friend who attended for 2 years in a row told us that he received his acceptance in mid April both times…

My daughter auditiioned on campus on March 7 as well… we have yet to hear anything…i guess this is good practice for the wait for college admissions!

Mom103- Where in the country was the letter received?

Does anyone know if the letters are sent at different times for the DVD submissions, or is it random? And are all the rejections sent out together or is that random too?

Hi! Tisch just sent out summer emails, and I got into summer @ ETW (as a rising junior)!!

question- what are people’s experiences regarding paying for summer programs? $8000 is a lot, and they replied that no scholarships were available anymore… Is there ever a “scholarship waiting list”? I’m just curious as to the options of financing…(besides getting a job)

Seffie371 - My D’s friend, who received a rejection letter from MPulse over a week ago, lives in Pennsylvania. Last year my D auditioned in person and received a waitlist letter in mid-April (? third week). We have not heard of any other rejections, waitlists or acceptances as of yet.

I just received a NYU CAP21 wait list email. I know of someone who got off the wait list in my town last year…I just hope I do as well!

Regarding the NYU Tisch summer programs-
I am wait listed for the NYU summer Cap21 program. How often do spots become available? Also, do they ever allow you to be in another studio such as ETW, Strasberg, or the study abroad programs if there are not enough people to attend? Does this ever happen?
Thank you!

Hooray! This is my first post but I have been reading CC for over 1 year and found it to be SO helpful. My daughter (rising senior) just got the e-mail last night from NYU-CAP that she is accepted for the summer program. She is on cloud 9. We have not heard from MPulse yet, or from OCU–I think they are coming this week sometime. We are wondering who else got accepted to the summer program so she can get to know some of the participants. We have another friend, a guy, who also got accepted and we are both also worried about the price tag. Any ideas about scholarships that might be good for HS juniors for summer study?
I don’t see how you kids stand the waiting and the audition process…it makes me crazy, but my daughter just takes it in stride. She LOVES to audition!
This sure is going to be a rollercoaster ride isn’t it?

Yes, CalMTMom, it is quite a ride! HOLD ON TIGHT! 'Cause when the ride is over, your baby is off to college!

If anyone is still looking for a summer program that is still auditioning, look into Circle in the Square’s Summer MT or Acting Program. I did it last summer and it was amazing and one of the best summers of my life. For being a 7 week program in NYC it is actually fairly priced ($2600 for MT, $2500 for Acting). You have to find your own housing, but myself and many friends found places in great areas for pretty good deals. Feel free to PM if you have any questions :)
