Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good summer programs (of any kind) for those coming out of freshman year. Many summer programs are solely for the summer between junior and senior year, so it's hard to find a suitable program! And if you don't do a program after freshman year, what would you recommend for someone to do over the summer?

What’s your interest? Is price an issue? How about location? There are many summer “pre-college” programs at some of the top universities. These include the Brown University precollege program. There is also Explo and Summerfuel. Just Google those and you will find all the details.

A lot of the boarding schools have good summer programs, too. DS1 did Phillips Exeter before 9th, but they had high school students there, too. Also, if you have a local university, they often have excellent summer programs. The summer after freshman year was the only summer DS1 stayed home for a summer program–he took a summer Chemistry intensive at our local university. Most of the students in the program were rising juniors and seniors, but they allowed three rising sophomores from DS1s school to attend based on test scores and school performance. (My point being that sometimes, programs that say they are for older students will bend the rules for an excellent younger student) So, check that out, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I’m just interested in finding out all the opportunities that are out there. If anyone has anymore, please contribute!

The Research Mentorship Program (RMP) at UCSB took two rising sophomores (outgoing freshmen) this past summer. I think that is about the usual number out of about 70 attendees.

consider taking a summer program that offers HS credit. This will help you get into advance HS curriculum sooner. Look at Suffield academy and the like… just a thought.
