Summer programs for sophomore?

I am a sophomore at a well known prep school. I take the hardest classes offered and get the highest grades possible. However, I want to get into a top university and understand that I need very good extracurriculars.

My parents won't pay for any camps so I've applied to several free ones such as the STEM camp and Drexel Engineering. I'm also scared that my lack of experience will hinder my admission into them.

Does anyone have any good camps/programs that require little experience? Do I have to work my way up the totem pole to get into these prestigious camps and what should I look into doing to improve my application?

I'm mainly interested in math and science camps.

Consider doing an internship! Those are unique and you can get a lot out of it.
