Summer programs in California

Hey, is there a list of summer programs in california? I know of COSMOS, anything else? (prestigious, science/math ones)

there are some programs at stanford

ssp ojai. Also one in socorro, new mexico but thats obviously not in cali.

^ for that, can i apply to both, or is it one big program where I can choose one or the other?

Stanford has some summer programs under their EPGY program (Education Program for Gifted Youth). My son has attended for 3 years (Robotics, Number Theory and Artificial Intelligence) and has really enjoyed it

EPGY is useless for college apps though. Go with SSP, and apply to COSMOS as a backup.

Yea, I've done COSMOS before..that means I can't do it again right..

What is the basis for your claim that EPGY is useless for College Apps?
thanks

TM

to op, u apply and chose if u have any of the two campus in preference. If you don't, then they will randomly ( well its prolly not all the random) place u in one of the two sites.
So basically what u do is apply and check that u have no preference on site. YOur app will be sent to ssp saying that no preference to site.

You are not applying to a specfic site, you are applying to SSP.
I put on my app that i did not care which site. I hear if u do this, it can actually increase your chances since they have more flexibility with you.

Alright thanks, that makes sense.

u can do cosmos again at a different campus though they give preference to first timers

theorymom - EPGY has Introduction to Engineering Programs. Do you have any idea how

rigourous/good they are?

How much of a boost does COSMOS give you on your resume?
Is it a prestigious summer camp? What is the acceptance rate?

The acceptance rate is pretty high imo..I half-heartedly applied and got in..it's not THAT prestigious I don't think, but still looks pretty good on apps since it's a selective summer science program and all..

Im deciding between taking physics honors and us history over the summer so i can take 6 classes in junior year, and do physics AP, and applying to COSMOS. Which one should I do? Which one is better on resumes: More Ap(also less classes so more time to study SAT I) or summer camp COSMOS?

Well, taking so many AP's can increase your class rank, GPA, and look more advanced on your transcript, and it's PROBABLY slightly better than cosmos, though im not sure..anyone confirm?
