Hello All,
A little bit about me. I’m a junior in high school and have been studying voice for 4 years with an amazing teacher! Along with this teacher I have started to take lessons twice a month with a professor at a university. I also privately study clarinet and piano and music theory. I do ABRSM Exams in singing and Music Theory. I am currently prepping for Grade 7 Singing in the Spring and Grade 6 Music Theory. I play in a two time Sudler Flag winning wind symphony as well. I also have begun cantering at my church.
My main questions obviously concerns summer programs. I attended the Ithaca College Summer Music Academy last summer and did not find it as competitive as I had hoped. I know that this was not an auditioned program. I applied for the Oberlin program last year and did not get in. Anyway this summer I am going to be focusing on audition only programs. My plan of attack is to apply to as many as I can.
I have been doing a lot of research for the past 6 months about all of these program. These are not listed in any particular order:
-Tanglewood
-Carnegie Mellon Voice Precollege
-Westminster Solo Vocalist program
-Interlochen
-Eastman Horizons
-Washington National Opera Institute
-Boston Conservatory Vocal program
-Oberlin
My main focus is opera and I some day want to make a career out of it! Can anyone give me any information about the rate of acceptance into these programs? Is there wait listing? What are the programs themselves like? Is there a focus on opera and foreign language? Are these programs all serious places where I can improve my craft over the summer?
Thank you all in advance!!
