My 8th grade daughter took the SAT last week. She still has another day to decide where to send the score reports. Very soon after that, the scores will be removed from her regular SAT record.

Are there summer programs, scholarships, or other opportunities for young high school students that rely on SAT scores?

Of course there's JHU-CTY and its analogues in other parts of the country: Duke TIP (but not for 8th grade?), Denver, Northwestern MATS, Iowa.

Is there any other program that gives a hoot about high middle school SAT scores?

She'd especially love to find a free or low cost summer program that might admit or give merit aid to some students based on high SAT scores. Or perhaps a private scholarship that uses SAT scores to award funds for other educational opportunities, somewhat like the amazing Caroline Bradley scholarships (which she discovered too late).

Davidson THINK uses SAT scores for admissions (we were able to use D2’s very high CR score from 8th grade for admission). You don’t have to have them formally sent by the College Board, just make sure you have a copy that you can photocopy.

I am not sure about financial aid, as we did not need it, but the web site says they do offer some need based aid. It is actually a bit cheaper for a 3 week program compared to the talent search programs ($3,000 for 3 weeks, plus travel expenses to Reno). My D LOVED it last year (her first year), and is very excited to go back this summer.

Last I heard they do have some slots open this summer, although I guess you won’t know if your D has scores that qualify until later in June. And not sure if there is any financial aid available at this late date, but they are very interested in helping the brightest students attend their program, so there could be. Here is a link:
