Summer School Classes & Credits

I'm a first year student in engineering (HSSEAS). In terms of getting credit for GE classes, is it easy to take summer school at a local community college and have these credits count for GE courses for my degree UCLA?

I'm curious to know if this is a viable option or if many people take summer school?

I understand there are UCLA summer sessions, but since I live in the Bay Area, I would take the courses at home instead of in LA.

It’s probably possible, but you should check with UCLA counseling first to get confirmation that they’ll count. It’s also possible to take summer session classes at another UC, and transferring credit might be easier.

I’ve did summer classes at my local CC and it was fairly simple. Mail transcript to UCLA (I think the Murphy hall address, been a while). Should see changes in DPR in about 2-5 weeks. Should confirm with your college to make sure it’s accredited to the right GE. (So it’s not useless credits.)

Take classes at a CC whenever possible. The lowered difficulty is much welcomed, and you’re facing off against the not-as-competent…usually.
