I am taking a summer semester to get some general ed credits out of the way. I want to take English 2 in the morning from 8 to 10:30, then physics 1 from 12 to 4:30 then History 1 from 5 to 7. This would be 11 hours at college every day, but I do have 2 hours of break.
Since it’s a summer semester, the classes are longer than they would be in a regular semester. Also, they meet every day M-Th.
Is this crazy, or can I do it. Any tips on surviving this schedule?
Keep in mind that you will have exams and assignments much more frequently during the summer than during the school year. Let’s say you have an exam in all three classes the next day or had assignments due. Would you be able to manage it given the amount of free time you have?
Keep it to two if they all meet 5 days a week. Think of it this way: if those classes are all 4 credits, I’d be like taking 24 credits instead of 16. It’s going to be a significant difference.
2 is the maximum you should take…How many weeks is the summer semester? Is there more than one summer session? If so, I would take one each session. Think about the fact that a normal semester is 15 weeks. if you have a 5 week summer semester, that means you are doing a weeks worth of classes each day that your summer class meets…and you have to do all the homework too.
Rethink your decision of taking 8AMs, everything in college happens two hours later than it did in high school and you might truly regret taking a class that early.
Definitely keep it to two. I am telling you from experience. 8am to 7pm is a long time. Too long. It’s a lot of material to digest which moves fairly fast.
