Summer School

What is the program where to be admitted, you must attend summer school?

Summer admission?

In the past, students not admitted for fall were considered for summer admission. That semester was probationary. If the students performed well, they were able to continue as regular students in the fall.

After the top 10% rule was enacted, that summer program was phased out. Now (as far as I know) only students who apply for summer admission are admitted into summer.

I do know of other schools that offer summer admission to students who otherwise would have been on the waitlist.

My S was offered a chance to start this summer and get his foreign language reqs done. He’s accepted for Fall 2011 and did not apply for Summer 2011.

That’s interesting. It is nice that he has the option of starting in the summer or waiting until fall. Sounds like a nice way to get acclimated. :-)

The program I wrote about was for students who were not accepted for fall admissions.

Oh, I see. I didn’t realize that was ever an option. Interesting.

if you are a new freshman and have the chance to start school in the summer, DO IT; unless you really need that month of summer vacation.

i did it my freshman year and it was AWESOME. although austin was blazing with hot weather, the classes i had were all pretty small and i got to know my professors really well. at least for me, all the professors understood that class was reduced to six weeks, so they were pretty good about giving us a fair workload. i had time to get used to the university before everyone n’ their mom showed up in the fall and by that time i already knew the ropes of getting around campus (i.e. getting on the wrong bus; FAR WEST…is indeed far ;'( haha).

also, get r’ done.
