Summer Science Program 2017

is the decision coming out this week? tomorrow maybe?

I believe it should be tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on if they want to keep the release day on Monday or they want to keep the from last year. Nervous >_<

Hi Dr. Faison, you do sound sincere, but next time could you please not to say something like ‘SSP is a great choice for someone who might be interested in attending either New Mexico Tech or CU Boulder’, and you know perfectly that is not true.

BTW, I think szhang9246 has serious issues. First of all, he doesn’t seem to know much about the programs before applied, so I guess he was just trying to get into a program that would make him look good in college app; secondly he showed an awfully bad judgement by posting a personal exchange with Dr. Faison in a popular public forum. You can’t do that dude! Not smart all at.

@jakeowl I think we should all relax… It’s a forum about summer programs. We shouldn’t call people out.

On the SSP, YSPA issue, I’ve had multiple friends at both and all of them loved their experiences. Seriously, both are amazing!

@gkdudtlffj Agreed. We’re here to encourage and loosen some tension, not the opposite.

Nervous as hell… anybody think the addition of Biochemistry diverted some Astrophysics applicants, making it easier to get in for both sides?

@physicsgod981 Probably not. I think more people applied this year because people found out there’s a biochemistry program. I wouldn’t have applied if there wasn’t one because I don’t really care about astrophysics (prob because I never was exposed to it). I am pretty sure there’s less people in biochem compared to astro because it’s pretty new. Who knows…lol as a sophomore, you are pretty much rejected even if you get alternate because you’ll never get the open spots.

Sorry for the conflict from before. But good luck to everybody!

@physicsgod981 I noticed the Biochemistry page when I was reading the SSP website before applying for Astrophysics. I wasn’t interested in Biochem at all since I’m more geared towards physical sciences than the life sciences. For some people it might be different, but I’m definitely skewed way towards Astrophysics.

Good luck to everyone! We’re on the home stretch!

Do any of you guys know what the acceptance rate is for SSP?

@quickpenguin I think ~10% but I’m not positive. Does anyone else know a more definitive number?

It’s ~5% for each camp, so you’re right. It’s kinda like 10% if you applied to both camps.

Actually, using combination, it’s ~9.75% XD

Only if I was a junior…

@gkdudtiffj there’s always next year where you’ll for sure make it. did you apply to other camps?

Yerg, I’m so anxious…by the way, did any of y’all apply to MIT’s Women’s Technology Program?

@szhang9246 Yeah. I applied to SSTP Iowa but I got alternate. I also applied for ASE which is a popular internship program around Portland Area but haven’t heard from them.

Did any of you guys apply to MITES?

@triacontahedron i did!

anyone know when decisions may be posted?
