Summer Science Program 2019

Also can someone compare those with RISE

(Sorry last non-ssp thing) how would all those compare to a NASA internship?

Someone did extensive research and listed STEM camps at different levels - RSI/TASP/SSP at level 9, SUMaC/HSHSP/Davidson/Ross/Jackson at level 8, USAMO/Simons/Clark/MIETS/MIT WTP/UPMT/Rockfeller at level 7, SPARC/BU RISE/HCSSiM/Canda-USA Math Camp/HSMC/PROMYS/SSTP (Iowa)/UCSB Research Mentorship/YSPA/Garcia - level 6, SSTP (FL)/CMU Summer Academy/ Cornell RABS/ISSYP/MITLaunch/Cornell Engineering Catalyst/PennApps - level 5. TASP is not a STEM camp and USAMO qualification is not a summer camp at all but just use them as a reference purpose. I am sure there are other camps missing but you get the idea here.

Clark admitted 12 with 400+ applicants in 2018. The sample size is too small to justify its prestige. MITES is really an academic enrichment program with little research focus

@WIGANDIA thanks for the info

Even with a 5% acceptance would yspa only be at tier 6?

That’s a biased ranking. take it with grain of salt.

I think admission rate is important but may not count everything. Another example is ROSS. In 2018, it admitted ~75 with 300+ applicants. . Most of applicants are self-selective. Its admission rate is not so low but ROSS is no doubt #1 math research camp.

I just chose yspa over ssp this year because it seems like a nicer program (and its at yale and lower acceptance blah blah). Hopefully one of you guys on the waitlist has a shot at ssp!! Good luck and have fun yall

YSPA is also a great program! In 2017, 32 were admitted and at least 5 ended up getting into Yale. Have fun there! @AvengersEndgame

@AvengersEndgame Just my two cents, but I think SSP/YSPA would compare higher than a NASA internship because a lot of kids get those internship via connections, and it wouldn’t reflect as highly as a selective summer program like SSP or YSPA

Got into SSP Biochem, I was worried that because the email said we have to “commit to enroll” in three days, and though I’ve filled out the enrollment commitment+deposit+consent form, my status still says “Enrollment Complete: No”, is there a chance that my slot will be taken out? I’m probably overreacting but I’d hate to lose admission now for a stupid reason. Should we email them to ask? Do they just take a long time to fill everything out, and it’ll be fine as long as we do the directions?

They don’t check all the time, probably wait a few days and then ask if it hasn’t changed. @fictionriddles

@fictionriddles Yeah the same thing for me. I think it’s best to wait to see if it changes.

@fictionriddles I got confirmation so I trhink it updated for everyone

Hi so what did people end up putting down for the academic strengths/weaknesses? I am slightly confused because I dont or cant really think of 8 different academic areas.

Guys should I do SSP or MOSTEC?

Hi I got into the Biochem at UCSD is there anyone else who did so we can start getting to know one another early?

Like background, school, interests, etc? Ik it’s kind of weird but it would be nice to already be familiar with everyone

Hello! Did anyone get off the waitlist yet?
