Summer Science Program 2019

@spppp232323 did they tell you how many ppl applied this year?

Do you think being too qualified (competitions and scores) can hurt your chances? They same on their website that they look for people who can benefit the most from the experience.

I hope not

@louisgarder I don’t think so with the scores or competitions. Possibly having a ton of research experience could hurt your chances.

for the students who got accepted or denied , are you international or from U.S.? this is what i have from the website :Admission decisions will be shown below and simultaneously emailed about mid-March for students outside the US, mid-April for students in the US. If your application is shown as complete but there is no admission decision, it has not yet been made."
so looks like result for US has not be released yet ?

@gotocollege111 No the decision will come out in 3-4 weeks most likely.

Around 2ish weeks actually! It has always come out around April 10-11th, and last year it came out on the 9th. The wait’s almost over

For those of you that received decisions already did the letter say the number of people that applied?

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago but no one replied.

Are results only out for international applicants?

@hebegebe I have the same problem as well… have you contacted SSP? What did they say?

Results are only out for international students right now. However, I don’t think it would hurt to contact SSP and ask for an early decision since 4/10ish is pretty close anyway. Also, is it possible for you to ask for an extension to the commit deadline from Garcia (based on your post history)?

From the admit letter - “This year, our 61th, we received around 1,300 applications from outstanding students around the world for only 144 spots (36 per program), so you can be sure that your 35 colleagues will be just as bright and interesting as you are. The opportunity to collaborate with them on a hands-on research project will be an unforgettable and exhilarating experience.”

@isru2050 Yikes, that’s an 11% acceptance rate. Good luck to everyone!

Do the US results come out around mid-April? Also, how many people who do biochem become Regeneron Scholars?

@cloudslicer SSP is not great for competition research. All the students do the same project, and it is similar each year. Perhaps you should look for an internship or another program that matches up students with professors.

Oh. How would you rank Clark or HSHSP if you defined prestige as the probability you will win something at a science fair if you enter your project?

Probably Clark > HSHSP.

@GoBears2023 probably knows more

@cloudslicer did you hear back from clark?

@royalflush792 I have gotten in SSP biochem 2019. Need clarification on

a) Do all groups get different research topics ?

b) Is there a possibility to submit your research to a competition like ISF

c) What kind of academic preparation do you need to attend this program ?

Thanks !
