yup, im going to socorro from mexico
where were you assigned? and where are you coming from? how come there is a 14 hour time difference?

@ Klebian. Nice I’ll bring mine too. I’m not very good either, but I enjoy playing

hey i got into ojai and last summer i went to this awesome summer program at georgetown and there were like tons of opprotunities to drink and it was totally fun, do any alumni have anything to say about that social aspect of the program

@eunjilee90
land of smiles, endless political bickering, and blue oceans … thailand
the time change’s gonna put me off during the first few days–moving from gmt+7 here to gmt-7 there.

any free coffee at socorro for a helpless addict like me?

coffee would be nice :]

in the email we just got, what does “no t-shirt of any kind” mean? are we supposed to sort of dress up every night for dinner or does that mean just a long-sleeved shirt?

polos would probably fly

uh whats a polo? is that like a dress shirt?

like basically, should guys be wearing dress shirts to dinner

Dinners are “dressy-casual” - one of the few enforced rules. :P

It isn’t too bad. Yes, polos work. Long-sleeved shirts are okay too. Just avoid t-shirts and things with giant logos.

So, do you guys think that there’s any chance those of us going to Ojai will be able to tour Caltech’s campus? 'Cause that would be totally awesome. :)

Or are we just visiting NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab?

I think people at Ojai do tour Caltech campus, but that is definitely not the only place you guys get to go to. I think we took one or two field trips every week.

so, are there any alumni who did an extended research project after SSP and submitted it to Intel/Siemens? is there anyone who can help me understand how to do this? is it simply contacting a local professor, talking about what I want to do research on based on what I learned in SSP, and doing one, submitting it to Intel/Siemens in October/November? Thanks!

At Ojai, we visited Caltech, JPL, and a bunch of observatories. It will be fun. :)

Oh, and coffee is a given at Ojai.

Additionally from the SSP newsletter for you SSPers:
Now for the first time, SSP and MIT have signed a formal agreement of cooperation in regards to admissions. They will feature SSP on their website along with MIT’s own hosted summer programs for high school students, and allow us to send information to their mailing list of prospective applicants. In exchange, we will invite them to the College Roundtable, describe SSP on our website and elsewhere as operated “in cooperation with” MIT (along with Caltech and New Mexico Tech), and display MIT’s logo. A similar agreement has been in place with Caltech since 2005.

what about Socorro campus? Do we get to go anywhere fun except for the white sands?
I really wanted to visit Caltech… that really sucks…

legittttttttttt

just a little question , do we need to know at least the basics of physics? cause I got in without any previous study of physics…

and also does anyone play volleyball??

no I do not play volleyball
but I run
and I play basketball

you’re going to have trouble, because i think the professors assume that you have at least a little bit of physics knowledge. you can always get help from your classmates though, or ask the TA’s. or the profs themselves.

knowing how to play volleyball is going to be great, especially in the alumni/student match. i’ll see you there :]

hmm, what student/alumni games are there? and what happens during alumni day/weekend?
