Summer Science Program (SSP) 2010

Hey there  I am Ana, from Romania. I sent my application on Wednesday, 10th of March, but I haven’t heard anything so far…so I am not sure it has arrived. Am I supposed to be worry or something?

the reason i was asking about the sophomores is because i’m wondering whether those who got in are applying again…or the ones who applied but didnt get in, are applying again. i hope nobody gave up! =)

@constansin5
did you get a tracking number when you mailed your application? if so, then im pretty sure you can check the status of the delivery
mine says it arrived at NC yesterday but i havent gotten an email yet.
dont worry =)

I received an email that my application was complete the day after my package was received.

so when are decisions coming out?

mid-April
That’s what they said

Do you think our chances of getting accepted would decrease if we mentioned a different area of science that we love? For example, I said that I loved neuroscience for the first essay question. I know a lot of people put physics or astronomy. Although I did mention that I love science, I didn’t specifically mention that I love astronomy. Would this hurt my chances with the admission officers?

@selena731: I went last summer, and I joked around about applying again, but I didn’t actually. I assume that rejected sophomores would apply again.
@iceui2: It might, a little, but only because they think that you wouldn’t fit in at the program (which is almost all physics/astronomy). However, people there have a variety of interests, and if you demonstrate your passion it should be just fine.

Probably doesn’t matter what topic you choose to write about, as long as you’re passionate about it. Only a few people knew computational astronomy anyway.

so did any of you who sent it in on Mon 15th get an email confirmation yet?

I sent on the 14th

no confirmation yet

wow…it says mine was delivered already (from tracking)
weird…

Sent in app overnight Fedex on the 15th, got confirming email on the 17th.

still no confirmation

how long do u think normal mail takes to go from the mid atlantic region to SSP?

no more than 5 days

so has anyone who sent it on the 14/15th not gotten confirmation yet?

Sent it Priority Mail on the 15th and still haven’t received confirmation.

same here
am i the only one whos starting to freak out? lol

Don’t be. I guess they got lots of apps. between 16-19, then it was the weekend. It has to take them a couple of days to straight it out.

Looking at last years thread, we should be getting decisions around the 9th of April I think?

but last year, they had 3 waves of admit, right? this is the first time they do it all at once.
