Question seven is, “Have you ever been suspended or subjected to any school or legal disciplinary action?”

How large does a disciplinary action have to not be considered irrelevant? For example I once got a after school trash pick up punishment for failing to put away band equipment. Should that be listed? And I’m sure I’ve had punishments in elementary school such as “time out’s” that I’ve forgotten.

Hey, I’m applying to SSP this year, and I have a few questions from any alumni/enlightened ones. Do you think it’s ok to put our resume with our application? I have a bunch of science awards that I want them to know about, but I need to conserve words on my essay. Also, how important are the teacher recs? I cheated and read mine through the envelope, and one of them wasn’t really any good. Do you think that will hurt? Thanks to all that respond.

to Scissors: honestly I would consider that not relevant to list on the application. I have gotten punishments where i cleaned up after lunch for things like dress code, but i didnt put it on there. i think they mean anything serious or anything where your behavior (not something silly like not putting away equipment) was called into question. anyone else have another opinion on this?

I’m not sure if the application rules allow a resume; it would be best to ask SSP directly through e-mail. Either way, I would just mention the most important/most meaningful ones in the essays.

As for teacher recs, my math teacher’s was rather bland and my chem teacher’s probably wasn’t great either. I would suppose that you’re OK as long it doesn’t say stuff like “xctennisftw is an unmotivated and disrespectful student.”

And hehe, “enlightened ones.” You certainly know how to inflate my ego… ;]

@Scissors/zest21:
I think they’re looking for things more along the lines of detention, Saturday work hours, suspension, etc… stuff that would go on your transcript or merit a note from your counselor.

I know the application instructions say to submit “all” standardized test scores, but would it be okay NOT to send my PSAT and PLAN scores? I want to send only my ACT because of my average scores on the practice tests.

just wondering, is it ok not to answer a question?
for the “life challenges” question i mean
what if i didn’t really have any major ones…what should i put? =

I sent in my application last Monday overnight express and I haven’t gotten confirmation from SSP that they’ve received it. Should I contact them yet?

I think they leave it up to you to write four little bits about each answer, one big essay on one of those topics, or one big essay weaving multiple topics together.

@CranberryOrange:
I’m sure you can wait a few days; the deadline is a postmark deadline, after all.

I’m shocked to think that you haven’t had any “significant” life challenges. Can I have your life?? I’m sure you’ve sent in your app by now, but things like a pet dying, an awkward first kiss, family issues, death of a school mate, worry over grades, denial to anything you have applied to (jobs, schools, programs), any significant injuries? Umm, there is so much.

Be prepared for the college application question about “describe a time in your life that you failed and how did you make up for that” (something of that nature).

Good luck to everyone, and don’t stress out. There are plenty of amazing ways to spend your summer; it’s just that SSP gives you a taste of college and makes normal school pale in comparison. Any last-minute questions?

My school uses a trimester system. I just got my second trimester grades (which are straight A’s), but I already sent in my application with only my first trimester grades (which are straight A’s and 1 A- in Chem). Would it be a good idea for me to send those in in addition, or is it unnecessary?

Will it be okay if my school re-sends my transcript past the postmark deadline due to a failure in the mailing system (I had already sent my transcript via my school around a month ago, but it was not received by SSP Admissions)? It’s a national holiday on Monday the 15th.
