Also, last year there was one school that had two people accepted, so don’t worry about other people from your school applying, esp. if you live in california. Though region definitely DOES play some role in admissions - last year we had people from all over the country, but never had more than 2 people from one state besides Cali, I think. (That’s in one campus though - there could have been duplicates from the other campus haha)

just got usps confirmation that they got my app. time to reread my essays and freak out over mistakes i find lol

Biovball I only had two as well, I don’t think it matters

Hello Treenode,

When and from where did you send you application? I live in PA and haven’t received usps confirmation after a week. I am really worried…

I love USPS
I sent my app yesterday at 9am and it got there today at noon! Then again, I could have driven up there personally in 5 hours…

By the looks of this notification date, I’ll have to mail many more applications to secure at least one acceptance… :-/

hopepediatrician,

sent my app from arizona tuesday morning, got usps confirmation that they received it on wednesday, got ssp confirmation (in the online app) on thursday

Treenode,

We are supposed to send the application to 108 Whiteberry Dr, Cary, NC 27519 USA… right?? PA is closer to NC than from AZ… I am so worried…:(

Did you sent the mail First Class or Priority or Express…? I sent mine Priority and it took two days to get there.

@Everyone else: I participated in Science Olympiad today and got really good results from the regionals. Do you think it’d matter/should I send it in? I also got in an interview with the local news and mentioned how I want to be in SSP this summer… (Well, they asked how I want to improve my scientific knowledge on the topics I did, in which one of them was remote sensing…) Worth mentioning? Idk… Feel like it can boost me a little…

Mention SciOly, but not the news thing

So I just realized I forgot to send in my AP test results…can I still mail them or is it too late?

I think you can still send stuff in after the deadline, but I’m pretty sure the online form and the essays need to be done/sent by March 1.

@hpyscm, Thanks for the feedback! Yea i spent 7+ hours on the essays, and received great comments/recommendations on them by my college counselor/parents; I tried to forget about my calculus teacher recommendation while doing those so I didn’t feel all this effort was pointless haha.

@Nobody, I also think it’d be great if you send your Science Olympiad things in, if they’ll look at it. Looking at your post, I’m also thinking about sending in to them that my robotics team got selected as a Semifinalist in the Los Angeles First Tech Challenge Championship Tournament yesterday…dunno if they’ll look at it/take it into consideration, but I guess it can’t harm you.

I don’t think semifinalist means anything in FTC. My team was captain of the 4th seed and were also in the semi-finalist at a state championship tournament technically. What I mean is… In FTC unless you’re the finalist of the Inspire award, Tournament championship and winner of any of the awards then it’s notable to write down. Unless this is the World Championship at St.Louis then that’s a different story… Semi-finalist or winner of your division is good.

The two pages I gave them were notable achievements that I did. I mean it doesn’t hurt to send them this information I guess. Also, they want to take SAT score from 3/9, I emailed them regarding this.

@IndianNinja7, why’d you spend 7 hours on the essay o_O that’s way more effort than I put in.

My essays totaled up ~1300 words, 3 rec letters, 2 page resume and some perfect standardize testing (except the 4’s on AP and SAT which I’m sending March 9th’s). If I get rejected, it’s probably my GPA

@Alpha2014 I don’t think you can send the March 9 SAT. It says on their website that they will accepts test updates up to two weeks after the deadline, and you wouldn’t have your results by then.

I feel that if I get rejected, it will probably be because of my essays. They weren’t terrible, but I did them all last minute and I know I can write better than I did…

Also, I just got a job at a science and space museum operating a robot and working the planetarium. Should I send that in?

Can we still check on the website if our stuff was received? I can’t find the link anymore

no, they closed the online application

@Alpha, as for winning awards in the FTC, we won the Finalist Alliance medal and the Motivate Award at the qualifying round (which I put in my app), but at the championship, our alliance couldn’t make it to the final match because of some last-minute motor problems with our alliance partner… >:(
And for the essays, I have some trouble getting started…I have a lot to say about myself, but phrasing it just right, and in the most concise manner takes me a lot of time, which is why it took me over 7 hours. Also, writing and rewriting after my college counselor read it, and trying to let my voice shine through without sounding superficial and plastic took more of the time. Oh well, so far it seems worth it to me. I can still read them and think I did well, as opposed to reading them again and thinking they weren’t as good as I thought they were :P

when do we find out about acceptances?

we should find out about acceptances by mid-April. also, if you want to check to see if they received everything, you can see your online application by clicking on the link in the calendar on the right side of the home page.

Can we start a list of some sort like the previous years? I’ll start:
- Nobody426
Just copy & paste + add your names on…

Also, if I want to email them to add on something that I just got the results on, should I address the email to Mr. Bowdon or someone else? Some help would be appreciated, thanks!

(My Robotics team won a Chairman’s awards last year, and qualified for the World’s Championship. I definitely didn’t play a large enough role to be merited for anything… (I was just a Freshman. Our team ostracizes Freshman.) Still worth to put that on?)
