Summer Science Program (SSP) 2013

There should eventually be 40 in each group- 36 students and 4 TAs. Though maybe 2 kids in westmont don’t have facebooks?

The full program fee is May 9th, so after that date I don’t think anyone from the waitlist will have much of a chance, unless someone going has some emergency and can’t attend. I’ll be attending at Westmont, and I’m so excited! Can any alumni tell me whether or not there is a dress code regarding swim wear for girls? I read the handbook and saw the dress code for casual wear, but it didn’t say anything about swim/formal/semi-formal wear in regards to modesty.

I was at westmont - you can wear whatever you’d like for swimgear, as long as you’d see it on a typical beach… Lol but two piece suits are fine I believe

The NM face book group has only 30 signed up, do you think there is still a possibility to get off the alternate list at NM at this stage?

I realize this reply is late, but I just wanted to say that I’m into Westmont and I don’t have a Facebook, so there’s one of the spots.

^GET A FACEBOOK. You will not regret it, especially once SSP is over and you want to keep in contact with your friends

Congrats on SSP '13 everybody!

So I never got off the waitlist…but idc because I committed to HSHSP anyway!

You should get a Facebook! Everyone on the page is already introducing themselves and we’d love to hear more about you!

Does anyone know the approx acceptance rate? Im gonna apply as a sophomore. Plus im international

Hey are you guys going to include that letter we got in the mail from Mr. Bowdon in your college apps?

@ coolestguy:

It’s around 9-10%. I believe that this past year was 72 accepted out of around 740 applicants.

I’m a rising junior, and will take AP Chem and AP Stats by that time. My school doesn’t offer AP Physics until my senior year, so I won’t be able to take that. I’ve made competitive scores on the math II subject test and the SAT, will I still have a chance to get in? I mean, isn’t this camp based on Calculus and physics? :(

You definitely still have a chance! I think about 25% of the students at my campus last year had not taken calculus. When we got to calculus the TA’s offered help sessions for students who had not taken or were weak on calculus skills. As to AP physics, you really don’t need it that much. I took AP physics before SSP and it didn’t help me very much because most of the physics at SSP is orbital mechanics, a topic that was not covered in my physics class. There people that hadn’t taken physics, and they were fine. I’d say that you definitely have a chance of getting in.

Same experience as above. I had taken AP Physics and the only really thing i used from that class was some vector stuff.

Hey guys do you think it’s okay if I ask my AP Stats teacher and AP Calc teacher for recommendations? I’m a bit hesitant to ask my physics teacher…

So I figure that there are a couple of alumni here, I was wondering how formal we should be when we email Mr. Bowdon, like would it be too much if I try and be a little funny? @sgu0752‌
