^ for march SAT i got one math q wrong, no omitt, and my math score was 770 :(. That is a bad curve.

aaaaaaaa... i get it :D

Yeah I took March too... and I failed.. though I like to think it was because I was pretty sick during the test.. :) There's always June.

chck this out for me.
If i had gotten.......
+1 q in math= +30pts
+1 q in cr= +40 pts (i got 3 wrong thats why)
+1 q in wr =+40 pts (i got 3 wrong that why)
30+40+40=110 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F***
I am done with the SAT 1

haha A-Card... we got really similar scores.. :)
i'm retaking in june.

aaaaaah I have to take SAT2 in june and SAT1 in october... grrrrr

zomgzorz. i agree with all of you about the march sat curve.

someone i know got the exact same essay score as i did, and got no mcq's wrong. perfect score. me: 3 mcq's wrong, 100 pts lower. :(

meh.

physics is starting to kill me.

SAT II's in June. ACT in September. SAT II in October. SAT I in November! Oh joy!

AP tests Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Tuesday, and another Wednesday. Oh boy!

Seriously. Why are there so many standardized test?

haha my question exactly..
i hate ap tests .. well for now. :)

I despise AP tests.
They're way too stress inducing.

I don't understand how Collegeboard is a nonprofit organization. Each AP test is like 80 something dollars.
SATs are like 50 or 60.
AND it sells the past AP and SAT tests.
AND it sells the answers separately. For like 60.

how many ap tests y'all takin? I got 5 on my plate. I can't wait for the next week and a half to get over.

Lol, I feel guiltily lucky. All I have are end of year exams.

OK, you lot seem like smart people. Help me out. I just signed up for the SAT II in June and I haven't ever HEARD of "least squares linear regression" before. How on earth do you solve the following problem (for anyone who wants to procrastinate studying for APs):

When purchased, the price of an automobile is $15,000. The price then depreciates by year as shown below:

Number of years:----0--------1---------2------5
Price of Car:-----15,000---13,000---10,900---3000

Based on a least-squares linear regression, what is the value,to the nearest hundred dollars, of the automobile after four years?

I did whatever research I could on linear regression analysis but I couldn't find a simple set of equations that would allow you to solve this problem in the context of an SAT exam. Mostly I just found sites that explained how their particular software modelled equations. The ONLY method I could think of would be to assume the best-fit line is of the form y = mx + c and then find the minimum of the function:

(15000 - c)^2 + (13000 - m(1) - c)^2 + (10,900 - m(2) - c)^2 + (3000 - m(5) - c)^2.

Now how do you find the minimum of that, seeing it's a function of two variables? Well I thought OK, assuming a fixed value of c, find the optimum value of m in terms of c. So basically assume c is a constant, find the derivative with respect to m (in other words, the partial derivative), set the equation to zero, find m in terms of c. THEN substitute this value of m (in terms of c) in the equation above, and then again differentiate with respect to c and set to zero to find the optimum value of c. Once you get this, you can find m because you already had m in terms of c. Now that you have your y=mx + c you can substitute x as 4 and find y to the nearest hundred.

...sigh...I certainly hope that's a valid approach. massages temples stirring 8 month old memory of multivariable course. I do remember learning how to use lagrange equations to optimize functions of two variables but we always had more than one equation to work with. I remember someone on here has done multivariable...any takes?

Anyway, the equations certainly seem solvable by this method, but it's EXTREMELY tedious and every time I try it I make some calculation error and just get too ****ed to continue. However, I KNOW this is not the method you're expected to use because even single variable calculus isn't on the syllabus (I think?).

Soooo...can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to solve that problem?

(The answer happens to be 5,600, btw)

What on earth? Automatic censoring? for the word pi$$ed?

Incidentally, is there any consensus on what that word means? I always thought it means annoyed, but I think in Britain it means to get drunk?

i'll tell you about the least squares thing on facebook... it's a long story:P

Hahahaha well I was under the impression that the word pi$$ed means like pee. Just in a vulgar fashion. But it can mean mad.

I dunno. shiit is like that too...

and in answer to A-Card, I have seven ap tests. My first is tomorrow... SPANISH! :(

Wish me luck guys.

seven here too :/ first one is on friday though- apush.
i have a field trip tomorrow :)

good luck everyone :D

Five AP Tests, took my first one (AP Gov) today. It wasn't that bad...

I have 7 to 10 planned for senior year. Overachieving is oh so... sighs

Anyway, good luck to everybody!

crazy guys... just crazy. 7 aps?

*** no wonder i got waitlisted...only 4 for me.

and i thought i was taking on a lot. jeez.

^ Ditto. Looks like I'm going to be the dumb one there. :(

(lol I meant ditto to Silverdragon... although I guess kmac works too)
