the interview is going to be in person and i have talked to liason officer before on the phone and in person so ive gotten to know him pretty well. My gpa is a 3.3 but ive taken all the hardest classes that i could and my SAT scores were math-670 reading-570 writing-500, they arent that great but im taking them again and taking a course now. My psat scores were what allowed me to apply but im not sure what they were right now. hopefully i make it in i applied for session B

Don't worry too much, I had my interview on sunday and I just got my email yester day that I got not session B. Hope to see you there!

what should i wear to the interview...it seems pretty informal but im thinking that I should dress nice

just wear nice slacks, dress shirt with a tie. don't need a suit or anything.

I applied to the Summer seminar and did not hear anything back from them for almost a month. Now I just got an email saying that I am a strong contender, but might not be notified until the final results after the March 15th deadline. I also got a call from my liason officer and we set up an interview in person for the day after tomorrow. He said it was optional, but I thought it would look better if I did it than not. Also, for clothing, would corduroys and a nice button up shirt/sweater be okay to wear? And should I prepare by doing anything besides having my SAT scores and Resume for him?

This probably sounds odd, but make sure that you will be able to verbalize your reasons for wanting to go to the academy. If you are like me, you probably know why you want to go, but may not be able to express it to someone else so that they understand. Just ruminate over it for a little while, because I can almost guarantee that you'll be asked that.

Hey guys- I sent out my application to the SS at AFA around mid January and got an e-mail saying that I'm still in the running.. then a few nights ago an AF Officer called and asked if I was still interested in the SS and wanted to interview me. She said it would be best to interview at my house and stuff, mid next week. So I'm assuming that I should dress up nice (like white pants and maybe sweater, or shirt and tie?), or what have someother people done? Also, any specific tips for any of us who are nervous about the interview? Anything would be cool- good luck to all!

Hey NGNetsfan34, the interviews from what I've experienced and heard about are pretty laid back, and the Interviewers are usualy pretty helpful and understanding on your position. Just dress nice, slacks, button up and a tie or whatever you prefer along those lines. Also I would try to put together a little portfolio of things such as a resume, transcript, a couple of short essays outlining why you want to go to AFA, why you chose it over the other academies. Awards, etc. Just show them your on top of everything and you fully know well what you have to do to get into this place. Even though you may not be the most qualified, being persistent and organized stands out a lot to them. Hope to see you there.
,Justin

Good luck!! Hope to see you there!

Hey one more thing for all the people who have already had their interviews. The officer who will be interviewing me concerning the SS will be comming to my house and meeting with me. I'm assuming they will want to talk to my parents as well, but was wondering if I should have my parents sit in on the interview the entire time. I'm not sure what everyone else did, but any advice on that? Or what did you guys do? Let me know - thanks and good luck everyone!

Take your que from the ALO. He might want to meet your folks, but most want to talk to you alone. They want to make sure that your parents are putting pressure on you to go. They don't want helicopter parents.

The ALO asked my son that right out "Are you being pressured?" Since parent is grad and still on Active duty, it is understandable.

I just had my interview yesterday. He met with my parents when he first arrived at my house and asked if they had any questions. After talking to them and them asking questions, he told them that the interview would be just between him and me. My parents just left and did some errands. Its easier that way so they arent interrupting. Good luck to you!

What happened with my interview was that I met my ALO at the ublic library and my parents wren't invited to come. I guess they could have but I told them I would rather do it myself I wasn't sure how overprtective my mom would get and if there would be tears so I am kinda glad they didn't come. But my expierience seems a little bit different from most.

My son met with his ALO a couple of weeks ago. He was invited to the ALO's home for the interview, and his mother and I were not included in the invitation. I assumed that this was so that he could better determine the source of his interest in the Academy, without having us there to potentially influence his responses.

One of the biggest tips for interviews for SS and eventually the congressional ones...

Go by yourself and dont let your mommy and daddy hang all over you. You look a lot more professional and mature if you are able to show up by yourself and get to the spot where the staffers instruct you to go.

At one of my Congressional Interviews they every candidates stand in front of the door of their interview room. I personally stood there on my own and look professional while some kids had their parents their fixing their ties and talking to them.

Grow up and show those interviewers that its your dream and your willing to do it on you own... One interviewer commended me for not having my mom and dad right by my side... :-)

Hey guys! My name is Allan and i guess about a week and a half ago I got an E-mail a day or two after my liason officier interviewed me and it said that I was accepted to Session B! I am so excited about Summer Seminar and I was wondering if anyone else was accepted to B? Also, does anyone know if we will get to pick our classes and I was wondreing how the Physical Training is while were there?

You will get a big packet later on which you will fill out all your information and rank all the classes in the order that you want them.

Didn't do too much physically, a couple mornings we had 6:00 PT, just about 50 pushups, 50 situps, some flutter kicks, and 2 laps around the Terazzo.

However, there was the optional Doolie for a Day, it was a lot harder, but it only lasted for about 2 hours, I enjoyed it actually. I do like yelling and exercising and laying in ice cold water puddles, though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the physical aspect, it is called Summer SCIENTIFIC Seminar. Just be able to run a mile comfortably and do work on pushup strength and also shoulder endurance(holding pushup position for a long time between pushup sets) and you'll be fine.

Yay someone else is in Session B with me I was starting think I was gonna be the only one there. Joy I just kept reading down and shoulder strength is not my strong point anymore after being in physical therapy for my shoulders. Oh well I've got a few more months before I am Colorado. See ya there Falcon!

From a parent's point of view: we certainly got the word about not hanging around for interviews. However, both our son's ALO and his congressman made us feel very welcome even when we did our best to stay out. We enjoyed both interviews and our son still had his time alone and to seem independent. Play it by ear. Just trust your parents to respond correctly-chances are they will.

My parents sat through my 3 hour ALO interview. It was nice because we really got to know him very well and they had a chence to see me as I act when I'm in "academy mode" (very different from "high school senior" mode). They also got a lot of their questions answered and some of their fears relieved.

If the ALO invites them to stay, don't kick them out because you're afraid to look dependent.
