Summer Seminar 2006

Greetings from Florida --

This is my first post on “College Confidential,” so we’ll see how it goes …

I was accepted into Session A (June 11-16, 2006) of the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar …

At the moment, I’m fairly certain that I’ll be able to go, but not completely positive due to a couple of other factors …

Has anybody else applied and/or received a reply yet?

Cheers,
Chackster

I just applied earlier today. How long should I expect to wait before I recieve a reply. I feel pretty confident that I have what it takes to get in (4.0, lots of AP, eagle scout, region XC champ, etc).

Hopefully I'll see you there.

I've heard that standardized tests are fairly important (PSAT is looked at, in addition to SAT and ACT) ...

I think you have good chances; I applied early on 1 January and found out at around 4PM-E via e-mail on 3 January -- only two days later!

Good luck, my friend!

With those stats you should have no trouble getting in.

Do what you can to make sure you can be there. It's a great oppurtunity if your considering USAFA.

I was wondering how long it would be until some 2011 hopefulls started popping up.

One thing I cannot stress to you guys enough is how smart that was to go to the Seminar. Ask as many questions as you can and participate in everything. It will help tremendously. Have fun! I loved every minute of the Seminar when I went earlier this year.

"I was wondering how long it would be until some 2011 hopefulls started popping up."

2011? Wow. What a way to make me feel ridiculously old!

When your at the Summer Seminar, just remember one thing.

If your element leader asks if you want to open the peanut butter... Make sure you accept the offer. You won't regret it!

Hey guys, Summer Seminar is awesome! It was such a great experience for me and for many of the people in my element. A few of my element buddies are on this site (Texas_Falcon and SparkleandShine) and I think they would both agree with me. We all had a blast! If you guys have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. How long it takes depends on where you are, for people in my area it took about 2 to 3 weeks. They let you know fairly soon though. good luck with everything!

i agree with soccer1458. guy4Christ was also in our element. i had a GREAT roommate and met lots of GREAT people. i think thats what makes it so much fun.

The waiting is awful (although nothing nearly as awful as those waiting for an appointment...)
To those of you who went to SS, how long between when you applied and when you got your yes?

I submitted my app on March 12 and got the email that i had been accepted on march 21. good luck!

I sent mine in February 10th and got a yes by email on February 11th. I already had my PSAT scores and highest SAT score at that point, also.

Did you get a email confirming that they recieved the application afterwards?

Yes I did.

I got an acceptance email the day after I sent the application. I received a packet a few weeks later.

@soccer: sheesh, mary. Forgot me again??!?! ;)

Awww, I never got to open the peanut butter. You reminded me. Now I'm sad. I'm sure I 'll have the chance this summer though... haha, and if they ask you if you want to take a silver bullet, say yes. You won't regret it.

And know the darned song and quote... I can still sing the stupid thing... it's quite catchy.

"And know the darned song and quote"

What song and quote?

The Air Force song, and we had a quote by JFK to memorize for Doolie for a Day.

Alright death!!!! Finally someone remembered the peanut butter....

and that JFK quote, I still got it memorized...

"When there is an enemy to fight in open combat, many serve, all applaud and the tide of patriotism runs high; but when there is a long slow, struggle with no immediate, visbile foes, your choice will seem hard indeed."

Good ol' JFK to the Graduating Navy Class of 19something
