how come i havent received a notification on whether i got rejected or accepted for summer seminar yet?

We are not the ones looking at your resume ;]

You will find out soon enough.

patience young one

I was told by my ALO the only people that received word so far are the "early selection" people and the rest will find out late March/ early April.

Lucky for us, some of us will get our SAT scores before we find out, so we can update our resume's with the new scored (March 29).

if you are an early selection does that mean the selection people think you are more qualified?

That is usually the case.

Remember when you apply to the Academy itself, try to apply early.

they also want to secure ppl early. as far as usafa aplpications, applying early allows you "more chances" in a way. if they are not positive they want you, they can defer you to another board later to see how you match up with other applicants. the more looks you get, the better for you. and completeing it early also shows your dedication, cuase its a long process

When do they send a candidate ID and application packet? I know with West Point, they sent a Candidate ID with SLS packet, but on my acceptance letter to AFASS, there was no Candidate ID. May...ish?

As far as I know there is no candidate ID number issued for USAFA. All login information for the application website is your personal information. My son never received an application "packet" as such, either. Everything is done online, even your letters of recommendation. The teachers that the Academy chooses are sent emails that they need to respond to, directly to the Academy.

Around June you will get in the mail the link to your candidate kit.

As mentioned before, it's all done online.

I also want to point out that you choose the teachers. The Academy then sends a link to these teachers.

Atleast, that's how it was for me.

Is there a correlation between being accepted to the Summer Seminar and your chances of receiving an appointment?

Very slight.

If you do not get accepted into the Summer Seminar do not worry about it. Many of those at the Academy did not go to the seminar.

CadCandMateus,

In my son's case the Academy told him which teachers that they wanted. They asked specifically for his current calculus teacher, his current science(physics) teacher, and his football coach to write recommendation letters, and son had to provide their school email addresses.

I guess it can be a different case for different people.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I recall my D was also requested specific teachers. It was her current physics teacher (not easy, they had a sub for the first 4 months of school - changing frequently - one sub took pitty on her and did it!), her current math teacher and, odd as it sounds, her French teacher too (it was either AFA asked for that or WP did, pretty sure it was AFA). There were no options. Given the problem with physics being a sub, she tried to get permission to use last years Chemistry teacher but were told quite clearly not to deviate from the instructions.... Never saw the recomendations so no idea what they said. The teachers do them online.

Indeed, typically teachers do not show you what they wrote.
