I'm really interested in doing a writing seminar session at Yale this summer. The site hasn't been extremely helpful in answering some of my questions. I've read that the courses aren't very selective (although the one I'm interested in is limited to 15 students.) Does anyone know if the application procedure is highly selective or not?

I'm guesing that you're not a senior, right? =]

Well, I honestly do not know. But I felt like replying. haha, but I would think that most things having to do with Yale is selective..

Correct, junior. But they accept any rising seniors.

Yeah, that's what I assumed as well but then I read somewhere that someone was saying it's not selective or anything. To me that sounded a bit far fetched so I just thought I'd see if anyone knew :)

I attended the Yale Summer Session this previous summer. As far as I know, it is pretty selective. You apply for the courses you want to take once you have been accepted (very few have pre-requisites) and mainly it is only the English classes that are limited to a few students. Once you get in, you can basically take anything you want.

Thanks, that seems to answer a bunch of my questions. What did you think of the program itself?

i loved it.

it was the best thing i have ever done.

Yeah it sounds absolutely amazing. Yale's kind of one of those huge dreams of mine and to get a little piece of the ivy experience would be great. (I highly doubt I'd get accepted for the class of 2014)

What program did you do? I'm looking at a fiction workshop along with one on early american literature (I'm drawing a blank on the program titles)

im unsure of what you mean when you say "program", as it is all under the Yale Summer Session Program.

i took an English class and Intro. to International Relations.

Being there for 5 weeks really gives you an idea of what it is like during the year (its just not as hot)

all the classes are the full 12 week courses fit into 5 weeks, so it is a lot of work..but def. worth it.

Sorry, I meant class haha.
That's really cool. Well I'm looking forward to applying and hopefully getting in. Thanks for you input :)

hey i'm applying as well (Summer of '09). But i was just wondering, how did you apply; did you send in all your recommendations, transcripts before you began the online application part? Have u received any information as to whether you got in or not? lol basically, what did you do to apply. thanks.

i did the summer session last summer and living at yale and studying there was a dream.

even if i don't get in - which seems unfortunately likely given the 26k people that applied or whatever - i definitely want to go back for another summer for college credit in another year or two.

Has anyone done any of the study abroad programs?

thats cool. like what was a typical day && weekend like?
was it all work and no play? lol i ask a lot of questions sorry.

do you think the quality of a course will be different if the teacher is not originally from the department(in this case not from Yale, could be a TA/lecturer from other universities) during summer session?

Hey guys. I haven’t been on this site in forever. I found out about a month ago that I got in! Anyone else going?

Hey guys! New to this site and very excited about Yale! Just got my acceptance letter for the Summer Session a few days ago and I’ve been anxious ever since, Yale being my first choice (but then again, I’m sure it is for many of the other people in this thead ;))

I’m taking Intro to International Relations, like akv12, and Political Philosophy since my school does not have any really strong Poli Sci programs. I’m so excited! Did anyone take the classes that I’ll be taking this summer and if you did, can you tell me something about them?

Like kvansanity10, I was a little suspicious of the selectivity in this program, and still am a little bit. But I guess I was at least good enough for the summer, if not for the class of 2014! :)
