Summer Start

Does UCD have a summer start program?

I've never heard of such program.

I received an invitation to STEP, both in the mail and online on the admissions website.

It read:
STEP Invitation Letter

NEXT >>

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of California, Davis! You are invited to apply for summer participation in the Special Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP). STEP offers students an opportunity to develop their math, chemistry, physics and English skills, and to reinforce time management and other study skills that are especially critical to success in college.

If you are able to attend STEP's on-campus session from August 18 to September 14, please read the List of Expectations very carefully. Students who come to the summer portion of STEP will be required to meet these expectations as a condition of remaining in the program for the entire four weeks.

If you need financial assistance to attend UC Davis, you should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processing center if you have not already done so. Once your financial aid application is processed, the UC Davis Financial Aid Office will determine your financial aid eligibility and notify you. If you are eligible for financial aid, the university will cover the $1,336.00 cost for you to attend summer STEP. If you are not eligible for financial aid, you will be responsible for the cost of the summer program.

Because space is limited, you should complete the STEP Questionnaire immediately, even if the Financial Aid Office has not yet determined your eligibility for assistance. Applications received after May 1, 2007 cannot be accepted. Should you later learn that you are ineligible for financial aid, you may withdraw your STEP application if you wish.

You do not need to attend Orientation if you are participating in STEP. If you cannot attend STEP, we will forward your name to Orientation. It is very important that you attend Orientation if you will not be coming to STEP.

To apply for STEP, please follow the "Next>>" links to your MyAdmissions application page and complete the STEP Questionnaire as soon as possible, and no later than May 1, 2007. Please call our office at (530) 752-6916 or e-mail us at step@lsc.ucdavis.edu if you have any questions or need additional information.

No davis doesn't have such a program. STEP is a special program reserved for first generation low income students. It is suppose to help them make the transition from HS to College.

That makes sense, since I'm in the EOP program...

low income? i wouldnt consider my family as having low income... but is STEP valuable to attend?
