D just auditioned at SETC’s as a freshman and received three callbacks, two were actual callbacks and one was just a drop off of a headshot/resume. Of the two actual callbacks, we are looking for any feedback or advice on two outdoor theaters - Theatre West Virginia and Stephen Foster Drama Association. If any of your S/D’s have had experience performing at these venues, we would love to hear from you!
@MTVTmom ~ No first hand experience but Backstage has a page where folks rate theaters where they have worked. It is called Gig and Tell. Google it
No first hand experience but Theatre West Virginia has some rough reviews on Gig and Tell. No info on Stephen Foster.
Thank you @stagedoormama. Looks as though WV got a new Artistic Director last year - https://www.register-herald.com/news/arts_entertainment/nick-yurick----artist-director/article_69589d7a-f8be-5e3f-a9f6-ca8c3ba7c996.html Will certainly have D ask around though before signing a contract anywhere.
Stephen Foster Story has been around for many years. (Like 50-60 or more I think) So it has stood the test of time. It’s really a show to celebrate all of the songs Stephen Foster composed over the years. We know a number of people who have performed there in the summers. I think it is a good gig for a college student to learn what it is like to do the same show day after day, learn to deal with the elements, etc… I have no first hand knowledge of accommodations or anything like that. But I assume they would be fairly basic. Bardstown is a small town between Lexington and Louisville. So you are not far from a bigger city. But I would think you would want to take a car. Not tons to do in Bardstown itself. They usually do another show along with the “The Stephen Foster Story”. So there may be opportunity to have a role in both shows. I believe this summer they are also doing Mamma Mia. It is held in an outdoor ampitheatre at “My Old Kentucky Home” in Bardstown.
