Summer Stock Theatre Auditions

It depends where, and what theatre it is. A summer at Williamstown would be worth every penny paid.

S just got his NETC time, so that’s done.

Pay-to-Play is something that you will never get the same answer from two people.

I think it is ABHORRENT that AEA lets theatres essentially charge for EMC points. That being said, a program like Williamstown’s CAN be well worth it (I have heard that multiple interns end up in their Broadway transfers - and that obviously flips the table on pay). Barrington’s Interns work WITH William Finn (hell, I would pay thousands for that as a mid-career professional). Weathervane? Yikes. That is a VERY middle of the road summer stock, VERY. The biggest benefit for those $2,000? Probably your EMC points. I guess it just depends on how important those are to you. Other theatres fall somewhere in that range (Hangar comes to mind, too.)

If I were shelling out a few grand for my kid to take an internship in the summer, I would want it with a really good company and great people.

TheaterHiringCo that is great advice. I hope my D has options this summer and if so, I hope to get your opinion on them!

@TheaterHiringCo‌ thank you!

Barrington is $3500, according to their website.

Question (for the future) about Williamstown. There are “apprentices” (which seems more “work” based) and then “non equity company”. (which has more performance base) Do most people start as apprentices? Their website says under non equity company that “strong consideration is given to those that were part of the apprentice program” (paraphrase). I have seen it discussed here that Williamstown trends towards upper classmen- upper class apprentices, or upper class performers?

There’s a lot of discussion of how it works here: http://auditionupdate.com/index.php?s=4&v=344

My S also just received his confirmation to audition at NETC… this is welcome news since he was not able to his Strawhat auditions due to being sick. Although he did get an email from a theater company (I guess they saw his profile at Strawhat) and are interested for a lead role in one of their summer shows, they have asked him to submit a video of him singing. Has anyone heard of or know about “Interlakes Summer Theater” in New Hampshire?

@MTMCMajorCook, info on Interlakes?

@GSOMTMom … A little confused, does MTMCMajorCook have information on Interlakes???

@Inspired59 check out gig and tell… there are 8 posts there.

Thanks @lojosmo… good info to know and on other theater companies :slight_smile:

@MTMajorCook knows everything!!

Gig & Tell has some mixed reviews for Interlakes. http://auditionupdate.com/index.php?s=4&v=347Merediith NH is in the Lakes region and, indeed, very beautifu;/.

I will PM you @Inspired59‌

And I love her!

:)) @puma69‌ I have no real scoop, just preliminary scoop :))

Anecdotally, all the stories I’ve heard through the years about Interlakes match the negative reports on Gig and Tell.

Has anyone’s kids applied to some of the apprentice/intern programs and have you heard from them yet?
