Summer storage

What do people plan to do about their belongings over the summer if they are out-of-state? I need to store my printer, bike, and some few odds-and-ends. I am looking into public storage as well as Dorm2Dorm. Transportation is not a problem for me, as my dad will be here on move-out day with a car.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

How much is the smallest cheapest public storage place?

If AC isn't a concern, then the prices look like this:

Monthly rent on this space

$91.00
One-time administration fee

$22.00
First month's rent only

$1.00
Total cost to move in

$23.00

So, it's pretty pricey, if you ask me. Don't you have a friend who can take over your bike?

I have to pay rent on an empty room in an apt this summer for my son to store some stuff - its coming out way more than the storage fees and there is a lot of space in the room because my son dosn't have a lot of things yet. I wonder if others charge to store stuff over the summer in their empty apt rooms? It would certainly benefit both the person needing storage because it would be way cheaper and the person who is stuck paying rent over the summer.

ebay,

Yeah, a buddy of mine did that along with subletting the room. He stored some stuff under the bed and in the closet for someone, and then let someone rent the room. He apparently said it worked out quite well for him, financially.

Well Redski - there you have it. If you cannot get free storage space from a friend by May 1st I will be at the empty apt. fixing it up and furnishing it for my son and his roomate from May 1-10. So you can always store there as a back up and whatever you want to pay to offset the rent there is fine with me.

A parent said you can pay like $35 per huge box that a company will deliver & pick up (for summer storage) & return to you after you come back to USC in the fall. I agree that folks who are paying rent for apartments over the summer also probably sublet space to help offset rentals which can be a win/win situation. Not sure how bikes fit into the box storage situation.

HImom, what you are talking about is Dorm2Dorm.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just got off the phone with my dad and we've decided that I'm probably going to sell my bike and then I can just have Dorm2Dorm pick up my remaining items. It should work out well, I hope.

I also used Dorm2Dorm, and they were awesome!! They did everything for me, and it was really affordable. I tell everyone I see to use Dorm2Dorm!!

Here's the webpage for www.dorm2dorm.com, complete with FAQs, pricing, "typical student" info, etc. It does sound fairly reasonable, with "average students' paying about $210 total for 3 months of storage, including pick-up, packing materials & re-delivery in the fall.
