Will selecting the summer term for my major make it easier to be accepted?

On the other hand, I thought applicants are automatically considered for the summer term if admissions cannot accept you for the fall term, so should I just select the fall term?

I don’t think they look at your major if you are an incoming freshman when you are applying. If you are a transfer student then I’m not sure what they do.

On the website they just talk about fall for freshman. Are you sure that you can apply to start in the summer? Anyway I wouldn’t think it would be any easier to get in then. Because if it was wouldn’t a lot of students try that route?

Georgia Tech does admit summer freshmen. Generally, these students have either lower test scores or a lower GPA than those admitted for the fall, or both. However, these students are still compared with those who apply for fall admissions, and as far as I know, almost all freshmen who start in the summer applied for fall admission and were offered the opportunity to start in the summer to enable them to take a reduced course load to become acquainted with Tech before enrolling in a full course load in the fall.

However, these students were not admitted due to some lower standard for summer freshmen, so it is not “easier” to be admitted for the summer. Rather, these students convinced admissions that they should be admitted to Tech, but there was something in their profile that indicated they might benefit from a head start and a chance to “ease into” tech academics and college life.

It is important to keep in mind that Tech takes a holistic approach to admissions, so not everyone who is selected for the freshman class has an extremely high GPA and test scores. Some freshman are admitted based on a strong record of leadership, exceptional involvement outside of the classroom, or an extremely compelling essay. These students will still possess test scores and GPAs that indicate they can be successful at Tech, but their average academic profile is likely lower than that of the average fall freshman.

In short, if you select that you wish to enroll in the summer rather than the fall, I would assume Tech would consider that request, but you will still be evaluated like all other applicants.
