i just got accepted to penn state smeal UP summer 09, and i did put down summer on my app. but i cant and dont want to go to summer semester this summer, is there any way i can have them reconsider my decision for fall?
GPA:3.925 SAT:1120/1600 1590/2400 ACT:24(fogot to send it) is my act better than my sat? can i send in my act and have them reconsider my decision? i am so frustrated right now
thanks!!

I think your ACT and SAT are about the same.

Since you were admitted for summer you are obligated to go. I am not sure Penn State would bother reconsidering you for fall, I wouldn’t risk it as your SATs are low for direct fall.

can i still call them and ask them if they can change it? because i really cant do summer

You can try, you may not be given admission to penn state then if you cant do the summer session.

call admission office and tell them your situation

My S was also admitted for summer last year and really didn’t want to start then. I called and said that it would be a financial hardship (OOS) and they said they’d be happy to place him at a branch campus that would be less of a financial burden…he started in the summer…and absolutely loved it. Made a ton of friends, got 2 classes out of the way. Very doubtful that they would let you in for fall if you were admitted for summer.

Too bad. You really only have two options. You can either switch to a branch campus or you can give up on Penn State entirely. It’s only possible to begin in the summer if offered admission to fall not the other way around simply because the academic standards are higher for fall admission.

so has anyone successfully changed it before?

as far as I know, the only ones have gotten this changed are those who have higher stats. Because you are considerably low for your SATs, I dont think you could do this. Good luck tho!

My son had a summer acceptance, and said it was the best summer he has ever had. When all his friends were home working, and chomping at the bit to get to college, he was there and loving it! A lot of his HS friends came to visit him that summer and were so jealous. It’s a tough summer because you don’t feel like a HS student and you are not in college yet, my kids always wanted to “push the limits”… He has since taken classes every may session and summer session and will graduate with a masters in 4 years.
University Park is beautiful in the summer, they would gather after classes at the outdoor pool… The kids he met that summer are the same 10 guys he has a house with right now. If you can work it out, I would highly recommend doing it…

did he graduate from undergrad in 2 yrs then grad school in another 2 yrs? can you tell me more about this? thanks
