summer uniforms in Jan/Feb

My mid has noticed that the summer uniforms that are uniform of the day currently don't exactly cut it when it is 10 degrees out and the windchill is below zero.

Is this the norm for the next couple of years or will they be issued new winter uniforms next year?

they got rid of the winter working blues this year, so now it's short sleeve khakis all year. granted they did issue us decent sweaters and our reefer coats are quite warm, if you don't have some long johns, your pants are worthless as a means of keeping warm. they got rid of the blues because they said they were making everyone depressed. i'd rather be depressed and warm than depressed and cold... but whatever.

underarmor long underwear... its heavenly

I heard the reason they got rid of the winter blues was because they began to smell as male mid's didn't have to wash them that often and because the dirt was not visible they would just spray them with Fabreeze when they began to really smell.

When my mid returned from sea she found out that they had done away with this uniform and was rather upset as it was the one she liked the best and it was the only one that ever fit her correctly. The tailors have never managed to make her khaki one look descent on her.

Actually, the real reason is that the US Navy is changing its uniforms -- enlisted are loosing the dungarees (navy khakis and chambray shirts) and they are being replaced with a Navy, grey, light blue and white CAMO set.

Although, the officers at the local Reserve Center are still wearing the working blues as their working uniform.

Too bad, I always thought the mids looked really sharp in the winter.

i hope we get to wear digis... that's be amazing...

Khakis are what the Navy wears year round so we have started wearing them year round. Besides, we still have issued sweaters, A-Jackets and Reefer coats which will keep you warm enough. It is not like you are just running around in a T-Shirt. IF your legs get cold, buy some leggings.

In the 'real' navy we (I'm speaking for officers only here) wear the khakis year round. A person can elect to wear the working blues if they so desire during the winter months, but it is not mandatory.

I thought the blues (they should be called blacks) looked nice with the gold insignia, but they were terrible to wear, the tie was horrible (my knot did not get untied in four years, and in fact I think is still in the tie) and the fabric was not as soft and cuddly as the khakis.

The latest addition to the navy uniforms for officers is going to be the camo. They are replacing the current "poopy suit" aka boiler suit that are worn in a working environment. I doubt that they will be issued at Kings Point. The other return for officers is the Service Dress Khaki. This is the uniform from WWII which I think is one of the best around. These changes will not come into affect for at least another year or two.

I sent gallons of Febreeze. Now I know where it all went. :D Son would agree with KP2001. He had to wear the blues through four years of high school & that tie was tied once & stayed that way, still hanging in the closet intact. Its a safe bet the tie at KP was done once as well. He jumped for joy when they went to the khakis. I will miss the blues though. They were sharp. My favorite will always remain the service dress blues.

The sharpest uni at Annapolis is that stiff collar short double breasted waist coat. I think its a parade uniform. The mids always have their picture taken in it. Anyway, I was wondering if they have these at KP. If not, Why not?
Thanks.

if you mean the choker whites, than yes... we have them
If you mean the choker blues, than only band co wears them. Why? Because they look gay and SDB's are good enough for the winter months.

And Besides, choker whites are the second best looking uniform in the military, coming second to the enlisted marines dress uniform.

I don't think those uniforms are gay but yeah we don't have them and only band co wears them or drill and color guard teams on special events and stuff like that. Also you can wear them sometimes if you go to the all-academy ball in the winter or random fancy events during the year. I think the main reason why we don't have the choker blues is because they are an expensive thing to issue out to all the midshipman here. Too bad.

its too expensive and they are rarely used. but you can be a tool and buy your own

why would that make you a tool if you bought it? i'm not saying that i plan on buying a set, but still. i see no reason to say it makes you a tool if you buy one.

because you go out of your way to buy a uniform that you never have a reason to wear

I just know they are sharp, and the girls like them. Thats typically all the reason you need, or have things changed so much since I was a young man?

ok, dumb mom here..........what is a "tool?"

Basically a jerk or somebody who thinks he's cool but isn't

Thanks for putting it nicely Boss.

OK you kids. Boss already answered so you be quiet. :D

I was using the "abridged" version...ha ha
