Yeah, I agree! I’m really thankful that I got in. I’m just hoping for a science class since math courses are not my interest at all. They don’t look that bad though.
And since I just got it and am returning the preference form, which was due yesterday to show the “definitie preferences,” it is less likely that I will get into the popular ones. but anyway, I’m glad to go!

ECU actually already assigned courses. With the packet came your courses and in the case of her Archaeology course, a letter from the teacher about the course and items to bring for the 4 weeks.

For all: ECU advises not to bring a laptop as they will not be held responsible for it and because they will give students ample access to computer labs to work in. Our daughter is not planning on bringing one for the reasons they mention and to be sure she is not in her dorm on it too much but instead interacting and enjoying non academic activities when offered. Still, I am wondering if academically it would be best to have one on hand.
Any thoughts on the need for a laptop?

Also, she just told me that she comes home for 4 days in the middle of the session. Just found that ou!

Nate: do you know when we are going to find out the courses that we get? Hopefully soon!

@chaeyeong: When I contacted one of the SVSM coordinators, she said it could be as late as the end of May.

@taben: I’m pretty sure that I will be bringing my laptop even though UNCC doesn’t have wifi capabilities. I would strongly reccomend bringing a laptop, you really dont want your daughter taking late night trips to the library. I’m sure its safe, but I wouldn’t risk it.

Anyone on here know when the UNCC finalists will be notified about what class we will be taking?

I will be attending SVSM at ECU this summer and I am curious to see who else will be there! My classes are Archaeology and Physics. Whoever suggested making a Twitter page should definitely do so- I’ve been looking for a Facebook page as well so I can see who will be there with me! :)

Hi Guys!
I’m a rising senior and I’ve been accepted into UNCC
Well, I was selected for an alternate but fortunately they picked me!
I’ve taken about 7 APs, but only 4 in math and science.
I signed up for Biology, Applied Mathematics …Optics and something else.

Let me know if any of you guys plan to run in the morning :P

@ramenfuel: Awesome! That’s where I’m headed! We also have 3 of the same classes.

I run every morning for at least 30 minutes :)

@kbuffs: I will be attending ECU… but I do not have any classes with you
Hopefully we can meet in one of the social activities they do!!! :)

I thought that I would go ahead and make a list of who is going where. So here it is:

APP- mlover15, pkhosr45, bandgeek96.

ECU- iceindian101, mich5225, kbuffs, taben’s daughter.

NCCU- slachgar.

UNCC- quyen820, nate42, chaeyeong, funsummer, ramenfuel99.

Feel free to add any if I happened to miss a few.

Very nice of you to do this ^^^ (above placement list), Nate!
Slachgar–we know of another going to NCCU…a very nice young man. I will have my daughter mention this thread to him and perhaps, like my daughter, he will get on when school is out!

T

@Iceindian101 Definitely! :)

App people: I contacted Ms.Tyler about course placement, and we should be finding out within the next two weeks! Make sure they get your information by May 10.

Going to ECU and I am from Davidson County-near Greensboro/Winston Salem. My parents and I were trying to decide what to do about the long weekend. Thought about beach, but rates are really expensive especially since it is so close to July 4. Might be nice also just to sleep in my own bed. Anyone going in that direction and would be interested in sharing rides? My parents could pick up or return if your parents would do the opposite. Thanks!

Mich5225: We are in the Charlotte area…4 hours from ECU. At this point I am thinking that we will go to the beach for the break unless she really wants to come home. I guess this is what we get for waiving the travel restriction! Good point about the likely cost of a mini beach vacation right around July 4. I better look into the cost before making the decision.

I am taking my “real” vacation before summer ventures. Probably going to Hilton Head Island or something like that.

Has anyone received their class assignments yet??? I am getting really anxious waiting for them.

You all need to share your experiences at each of the SVSM campuses to give some of the future applicants of what to expect and such. I think that this is the first thread on CC about SVSM. It would be nice if this kept going over the years!

@evan: My friend and I, who is attending Charlotte, have already started interest at my school for next year’s applicants. I will try to keep this thread going until next year for those who wish to see how we enjoyed the experience.

We have heard again and again that SVSM is very, very fun. So I am hoping that as you all go and then return from your summer experiences, you will be able to report that it is indeed FUN!
Anne

@taben: I have only heard great things about the program. I hope we all enjoy it!

It would make my day if I get the Lab Biology class at UNCC. I am taking AP Biology next year and I think that course would be very beneficial.
