<p>Anyone know of any prestigious volunteer abroad programs that are not very costly? I am interested in going to India this summer, can anyone help guide me to some good programs?</p>

<p>I see a few "issues" with what you are looking for.</p>
<p>First -- there are very few "prestigious" summer programs out there. I am assuming that by "prestigious" you mean a program that impresses college admissions officers at ivies and other top, top colleges -- not your neighbor, girlfriend or gym teacher. I know of no summer volunteer programs abroad that are considered "prestigious". The only thing that might look good is if you either earned the money to pay for the trip or if you were awarded a merit scholarship to attend.</p>
<p>The second problem -- money. There are some excellent study abroad programs -- that you will enjoy, that will expand your knowledge base and that are definitely a good way to spend your summer. The problem -- they cost money. Money to travel to that country, money for food and board and money to travel in-country. </p>
