Does anyone know what time the dance auditions are at Unified in Chicago. Someone said they were at 11:00 but I’m not sure that’s right.

It doesn’t really say on the website, does it. If you email Brianna or Robert in the CCPA office they should be able to help you. They were extremely helpful and friendly last year.

My D is a freshman BFA MT Voice major at CCPA this year if you have any questions you’d like to ask us! She is very happy there!

Thanks for the help. I would like to ask your daughter if it’s easier for guys to get admitted and how stiff the competition is for guys.

I feel that CCPA is slightly easier overall to get in to just because of the increased number of students (boy and girl) accepted. The class can have up to 25 BFA acting majors, 25 BFA MT Voice emphasis and 25 MT Dance emphasis (new this year). They don’t have a set number of boys to girls. D’s class has 13 actors, 17 dancers and 28 voice MT’s.

Of course “slightly easier” is still very competitive. But there always seem to be more girls than boys auditioning for each spot, so boys (esp the very talented ones) have an edge.

Thanks for the info. We just don’t have any idea of how our son will do given we can’t be objective. So I guess we just do all we can to help him and hope for the best. It’s great your daughter got into such a wonderful program. :)

Ikemom, is your S applying to Rider? Just like CCPA, they allow you to say at the audition that you would consider both MT and acting (twice the chance of acceptance) and the nice thing about Rider is they have rolling admissions. They hear within a few weeks of when they audition and if it’s a yes, it takes SO much of the pressure off of your child.

In high school, my D took classes at a theatre school run by Robin Lewis (now the head of MT Dance at Rider). He is a great teacher. And Rider is an up and coming program. Just another school to check out…

Thanks so much for the suggestion. We really need a Fit or a Safety school. Where would Rider fall? I’ll check the school out.

^All schools on a kid’s list should be “fit” schools. Good luck to your son.

Rider is an auditioned program so could not be considered a “safety” at all. You would need a non-auditioned program that he could see himself attending that fits him academically and financially for it to be a safe or sure option. Have you looked at Muhlenberg?

I don’t know if you got the answer to the original question, but Brianna said that dance auditions are throughout the day on Sunday starting at 10 am.

I got an email from the school that said the dance audition is Sunday at 11:00.

^^That’s interesting. Who did your email come from? Brianna Borger also said that they’re doing tours on Saturday to coincide with the Saturday audtions and that we were more than welcome to stop by. Since we get in early on Saturday and it’s a 9 minute walk away from the hotel, we’re heading over there to check out the campus.

My D is a sophomore MT at CCPA. She auditioned at the Chicago Unifieds and had the dance portion in the evening on Sunday. Hers was one of several time slots during the day. Definitely take some extra time to meet the people and check out the place. It wasn’t really in our radar until D met Brianna during college day at school. Once she got to Chicago, she was treated so well and really felt a connection there. She couldn’t be happier with her training and the people she gets to work with!

CCPA was my D’s “favorite” audition. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. They took time to get to know her as a person, she felt. The faculty and staff are amazing. Check out their bios on the website. And they go out of their way to create a family atmosphere which is also professional with quality teaching. And of course the location is so cool and the theatre community in Chicago is full of opportunities both during and after college.

My D just got a dance call for 2:00 on 2/2/14 and an audition at 11:50 on 2/4/14. If you read the fine print on their web page you have to call admissions to schedule the audition. The number is (312) 341-6735. We’re very excited for this one - it looks like a great program and we’re only 1 1/2 hours away from Chicago. See you there!
