Sunset Village

<p>I was assigned to Sunset Village. To anyone who has had this before, did you like it? What are the rooms like? How far is it to the nearest fitness room, etc
thanks</p>

<p>did everyone already get their housing?
i havent... :(</p>

<p>did you check your housing account in myucla?</p>

<p>christina: house apps ended in may 1 I think so you might be a bit late...
on topic: when I went to the engineer open house I took the housing tour to sunset village, it is nice but kinda quiet, im pretty sure everyone goes to wooden for fitness so like a 5min walk?</p>

</p>

<p>Try 10 minutes for a medium-paced walk from Sunset to Wooden.</p>

<p>lol if you want to exercise you'll just jog and that'll take 5min lol</p>

<p>I live in Courtside, one of the buildings that make up Sunset Village. Here's a quick pros/cons list about Courtside to give you an idea about SV.</p>

<p>Pros:
-Private bathroom
-Close to BruinCafe (you'll learn to love late night coffee/food)
-Close to Hilltop (your local convenient store)
-Don't have to walk up any death-stairs after finishing class - it's relatively in the middle of the dorms
-Right next to Sunset Recreation Center (your local tennis courts, basketball courts, and two outdoor swimming pools)
-Right next to Covel (Covel offers private study rooms as well as a big study room that you can ...well... study in :p. A lot of campus events are also often hosted in Covel so it's just a quick walk for you to get there)
-There are 8 lounges on the 2nd floor, all which are great studying places if you'd like to study outside your room. Courtside has a great studying habitat, which is good if you're looking for that.</p>

<p>Cons:
-A lot of people think Sunset Village is "not social." Although it is true that it's not AS social as the res halls (for obvious reasons), SV IS social. You just have to take initiative and make friends yourself. There may be anti-social people, but there's obviously a bunch of social ones.
-Right next to Covel. (Although it's a pro sometimes..I personally don't like eating pasta everyday. Some people like it..I guess..)
-Rooms may not be as roomy as some other plazas, but it's good enough for me.</p>

<p>If I think of anymore, I'll add em to the list. Hope that helps and enjoy Sunset Village next year!! =)</p>

<p>thanks! .</p>

<p>Hm..can't edit my previous post.</p>

<p>Con:
-Front desk is located at Sproul: so if you ever need change for laundry (since the machine is out of change often) or you need a new key because you lost yours, you'll have to walk to Sproul. Even though it's not that far, it's still inconvenient to have a front desk that's a distance away.</p>

<p>Ohhh. </p>

<p>So THAT's why the front desk at Sproul is still occupied. I was wondering why there were people staffing the front desk when Sproul was closed for renovations. </p>

<p>Random thought.</p>

<p>I'm in Delta Terrace (anothelr SV building)
Pros:
-Shared bathroom (6 ppl, but it is not that bad)
-pretty big room
-close to B-Cafe (my gpa would be .5 lower if it weren't for 1am coffee runs)
-no stairs (you'd think its a minor issue but just wait)
-closer to campus
-very quiet
-more but i cant think of any right now</p>

<p>Cons:
(this is what differentiates Delta frm Courtside and canyon)
-bathrooms are shared (other buildings have private)
-you have to either take an elevator up to the main Delta triangle or walk up a small flight of stairs (VERY minor inconvenience)
-sometimes a little too quiet
-lounge is kinda...meh
-no front desk (have to walk to Sproul)
-Have to walk up the stairs to get to Reiber/Hedrick(asian) dining halls
-(big one) have to walk up stairs to get to Rendevous</p>

<p>**i really really like SV and I think they are arguably the best dorms on campus (location, size, cost...). Out of the SV buildings, Courtside is the best.</p>
