Is SUNY Geneseo considered a good school for those looking to go into the sciences? Do they offer research opportunities, have good programs, etc.? Also, if anyone attends or is an alum, would you say that the education received and rigorous courses of SUNY Geneseo truly stand by its nickname as a "public ivy"?

Yes, S is looking into Geneseo for physics- good program for physics with a good number of degrees given for its size. Not sure about the other sciences but good reputation overall.

My daughter is looking to Geneseo for Biology. I think it’s a great school. There are research opportunities, but they are going to be different than what you’d get at one of the University Centers, because the emphasis is on teaching rather than research, and the faculty aren’t going to have the big, high powered research labs that you find at a techier place. That said, students seem to have the advantage of being able to work more closely as undergrads with the faculty as there are no graduate students.
