SUNY New Paltz EA notification date

Muffy333 - I am really surprised that your daughter was deferred too! Hopefully she will ultimately be accepted....will keep my fingers crossed for you.

She only had 2 AP classes so maybe that's why...but her schedule was otherwise strong; high school is competitive. Oh, well.

Curious to see OOS stats accepted/deferred/rejected.....this could be budget protection, muffy.....NYstate schools are going to desparately need OOS tuition money and may be deferring some in-state kids to see if they can get that money RD. Just a thought.....

OOS cost is only $25,000. I'm willing to pay that to get her in but not sure there's a way to arrange same! I really loved New Paltz when I visited. She's into another OOS college but it costs about $35,000.

Yup, I know about the OOS cost; tons of kids here in NJ are applying to Binghamton for that exact reason...If last year's results are any indication, they will have no problem being accepted...it's a no lose situation for the SUNY administration; geographic diversity addressed and more $$ coming in....I've heard that there are NYS kids trying to apply to SUNY with OOS addresses just to be accepted......

Just curious, what other OOS was she accepted at?

URI. She loves it; would be fine going, but I'm not happy with price. Has not heard from some other SUNYs and OOS publics.

I was just accepted OOS (FL)
stats-
27 ACT
3.56 gpa uw
11 aps total
8 leadership positions

Drama-mama... so people received denials before acceptances; maybe it isn't such a bad sign I don't have anything yet.

Just got my letter 5 mins ago... Accepted. 3.4 uw, 1450 SAT, Full IB
Instate, Upstate NY

PShap, will you be attending?

Depends... Still waiting to hear from Binghamton EA and stuff

So my daughter was deferred and called admissions office, assuming they wanted to see Jan grades or something, and it turns out they didn't have her CB SAT report. She checked CB and the send to NP didn't go through (has now rush sent). The status checker said app was complete so she didn't think anything was missing.

Good thing she called! I'd really like her to go so maybe this will help turn deferral into accept

Oh boy...good thing she checked! I bet she's in once they get the SAT scores.

And a call to College Board revealed scores actually WERE sent so this gets stranger. But I hope she gets in.

My daughter did get accepted a few weeks ago. Stats are Act 29, 3.6 gpa uw /3.8 w only one AP class lots of honors and EC

Updating D's saga; she sent/had sent all required stuff into NP, status check said all complete in early Nov. Got generic deferral letter in Dec (our applicants were all so wonderful we had to defer you etc.). Called NP to ask why they didn't love her and was told deferred bc no SAT recieved from CB. It had been sent per CB, but she sent it again. Got acceptance today but in the meantime found reasons not to want to go to NP. I'd like her to go though. Or maybe I just want to go.

Congrats on the acceptance! Why is D no longer considering NP?

Lily Moon - I think main reason is M/F ratio and secondarily is all her friends saying its a mad hippie school...She'd rather go to Albany if she has to go to a SUNY (deferred at Bing, hasn't heard from Geneseo but that's a reach). I think NP is a much prettier campus and they have her preferred major (elementary ed). I'm going to try to get her to go visit NP and Albany again when the snow melts (or maybe we visit Albany NOW and NP when the snow melts haha) but they cost the same so the decision is hers.

Haha...I feel the same way you do...I would have chosen NP myself as well, but I didn't have to convince my son. It was the only SUNY he would even consider and he has stats to get in anywhere. He had a reason not to apply to each one.

As far as the hippie reputation - the town has a hippie vibe but the students do not. I probably now know about 20 or more students that attend NP and none of them are hippyish at all. The elementary ed program is a stand out there and the girl/guy ratio gap is closing as the school has become more popular and attracts more of the male population. Plus the guys that do go there are the coolest. ;)

I don't want to push too hard or she won't pick NP!!! But I think it is such a cool school. She just brought up there were no malls nearby (Albany is right next to one) but I don't think its real far from Woodbury Commons if you have a car and there's a mall in Poughkeepsie.
