so over 2 weeks ago D's on-line admission status said that an admissions decision had been made and she would be notified by mail (only) within 14 days of the decision. No word yet and D is wondering if she should call to find out why not! this is her top SUNY choice!

So quick! We thought it would take til at least the middle of December for the EA decisions. My D’s status just says it’s not available at this time. We’re trying not to think about colleges but it’s nerve racking!

We got the same status holliesue, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s probably an indication of a denial. It just seems like too short of a time between submission and a decision (at least in my D’s case and given her credentials), for it to be an acceptance. And looking at last years results for NP here on CC, those who got in EA recieved their decisions late December to January, whereas the letters in November were denials. Why would they wait two weeks if it was an acceptance? My D was accepted at another school and their approach was just the opposite: theycongratulated her and told her online that she was accepted and that there would be an official letter to follow in two weeks. My guess is NP figured that if they gave a denial online this soon it would only prompt phone calls, asking if there might be an error or for reconsideration after Fall grades etc. Whereas a paper letter saying our children were denied would be definitive.

Of course, I tend to be a pessimist, but that’s how I see it.

My daughter had that message too and her stats are above average for NP so she isn’t expecting a denial, but you never know…

Muffy, my daughter’s stats make her a match or match plus for NP (going by Naviance) but not a slam dunk we-know-we-want-you-here-two-weeks-after-we-saw- your application, pick. That’s more what I meant. And a lot off kids from her school applied including a number with better stats (though admittedly I don’t know if they got the same status).

However, I’ll still root to be wrong and for all 3 of our kids to get in. It was my D’s original first choice too, although it has slipped a couple of notches lately based on the usual things people have told her about life and the scene there.

my d’s stats are above the norm for NP, so i would be surprised if it means a rejection, so don’t give up hope mhc48. And my d’s status didn’t change two weeks after getting her app. she got her app in really early and just two weeks ago they said a decision had been made. I am trying to be optimistic!!!
by the way, can you share the info you got re NP??? either publicly or in a PM?

holliesue, it was just the normal stuff you hear about NP: drugs, what my daughter calls “hippy” weird kids. I know some have said in this forum that it’s more the town reputation or a carry over of the school’s past rep which is not as indicative of what it is like now. I thought of telling her that, but decided to wait and see if she gets in first. If she doesn’t then being less enamored of the school will take some of the sting out, and if she does get admitted we’ll go for a second longer or overnight visit.

My D had hers in pretty early I think. New Paltz has a rep for being very very hippy/liberal/artsy - some kids are turned off by that and some kids think it’s fabulous.

mhc-I think most of that info on NP is leftover from previous era! However, I have no doubt that there are plenty of kids there who party. NP is my d’s top SUNY choice, but not her top choice overall. She is still hoping the financial packages at a couple privates will enable her to go to one of them. So far it is looking good!
Good luck muffy and mhc!

Thank you, both. Either way, not much longer to wait.

I applied Early Action to New Paltz fall 2011, but did not know there was an on-line place to check, nor ever received a userid/pass? I did follow-up and they said my application was complete though. How did you get a login?

beehee- they sent my d an email with a log in to their system. she then chose a password.

The e-mail should have come from New Paltz Computer Services. Check your Spam or Junk mail?

The status thing about 7-14 days is a mistake, that’s only applicable for regular decisions. See the NP facebook page. Strange things happened when my older daughter applied as well; they are not real organized but it’s a laid back hippy school…

Muffy, I’m one of the three people in the World not on Facebook. Do you mean that you think there won’t be a decision this week?

Mid-December per NP facebook admissions rep.

oy…I wouldn’t have cared if they had just said that in the first place…but since she had the status change, every day has been expecting the letter. At least now I can tell her to chill for a month!

My D’s status changed today - so I’m glad I found out that we all have gotten this message! We’re going to switch to turkey mode and try and forget about everything until mid December. My sister went to NP back in the 70’s so visiting the school was a real deja vu for me.

any news anyone? still nothing here!

I can almost throw a rock from here to New Paltz (well actually about 20 minutes away) and nothing here yet either.
