<p>1/27/2006 - Two midshipmen from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be part of the pregame ceremonies of Super Bowl XL in Detroit, MI on Feb. 5, the first time that the Academy has participated in this high-profile event.</p>
<p>The midshipmen are members of the Academys Regimental Band and will play the drum cadence for the Joint Services Color Guard as it marches onto the field for the National Anthem.</p>
<p>The midshipmen will represent not only the Academy, but Americas Merchant Marine as well, which has served the nation in both peace and war.</p>
<p>The midshipmen drummers are plebes Jonathan Dufault from Colorado Springs, CO, and Paul Fitzpatrick from Marietta, GA. A third midshipman, senior Timothy Kennedy of Hillsborough, NJ, the Regimental Bandmaster, will accompany the plebes to supervise their performance.</p>
<p>The director of the Academys Regimental Band, CAPT Kenneth Force, noted that the band has played at other high-visibility events in the past, like the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade and at Presidential Inaugurations. Hes very pleased to add the Super Bowl to the bands resume.</p>
