Apparently Ariana Grande and others were supposed to put in an appearance so I wonder if there were problems due to COVID logistics?
Oh, maybe! I hadn’t thought of that.
I didn’t think there would be any special guests appearing because of Covid. I have always liked The Weeknd ever since D2 first saw him in 2012 at Coachella and became obsessed.
The appearances by Drake, Arianna Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk, etc were simply fanboys’ wistful musings.
he said that bringing in guests wasn’t part of his storyline, he wants to fit in and continue his “after hours” storyline
least he brought out hob, loved the hob to blinding lights transition
There was an after party concert to benefit small businesses with the other stars:

They didn’t seem too worried about Covid during the number that had dancers literally bouncing off each other.
Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga were my favorites for SB halftime. Also years ago, Up Wit People (who else here is old enough to remember them) did a fabulous halftime show, IIRC.
@mountainsoul, Drake was busy being Jake from State Farm’s body double.
I didn’t watch but saw people commenting on facebook. Some thought it was bad, some were confused, many like me had never heard of him (though I have heard my kids play that song “can’t feel my face”. There were several though that said at least it was clean and decent if a bit boring, no wardrobe malfunctions, inappropriate costumes and dancing.
The second half of U2’s performance in 2002 was my favorite ever; MLK into Streets Have No Name with the 9/11 tribute was perfect for the halftime show.
I wondered…so I looked this up…
“ Over an 11 year period, from 1976 to ’86, Up With People was the headline act at Super Bowls X, XIV, XVI and XX.The group has more Super Bowl halftime appearances than any other act.”
As clean and decent as a song about cocaine can be I guess.
During half time (the only part of the Super Bowl I usually watch) I texted my football fan daughter and asked if next year they could return to the ancient tradition of marching band.
Well, we could go back to the 70’s and bring back the Up With People cultists.
To be fair, they may or may not be related to a cult, but they sure as heck act like they’re brainwashed!
I had friends who were Up With People members, both performer and tech. Rigid requirements, yes. Cult…no.
It was just ok (the national anthem performances were great!)
I doubt there will be another halftime show better than Shakira and JLo last year. Now THAT was a great show!
I was telling my daughter last night about some of the comments I had seen on facebook about the performance, so she looked it up. She said she likes some of his songs but she thought the show was creepy and had a satanic vibe, kind of surprising for a 15 year old.
Glenn Close talks about being a member of Up With People in a recent episode of Finding your Roots on PBS. If you are interested in what she had to say
