Hey guys, I'm new to the collegeconfidential forums (I never bothered to make an account until today, when I got my January SAT score.)

So.. here's my story.

I live in a very competitive society, where everybody is expected to get straight A's and perfect SAT scores, not to mention all 5's on AP tests, etcetera.

So.. as a hopeful student that will be applying to the Ivy Leagues in late 2010 (class of 2011), I took the October SAT of 2009 (as a junior) and got a 2240.

I felt that it wasn't good enough, and took the January SAT and got a 2160. I am now really, really depressed because everyone around me have been scoring 2300+.. and talk as if anything below a 2300 is a bad score.

I was wondering if I should take the SAT for the 3rd time for a 2300+, because I have also heard that taking the SAT numerous times makes you look bad to colleges..

Please help me out, and give me some tips on what to do / how to improve my scores if I do decide to take it again this May!

Since writing seems to be the weakest section, I would recommend having the SAT online course (if you can - if not, just practice with Blue Book) and take writing practice sessions. My writing went from 610 (first time), to 710 (second time), and 800 (third and last time) from going over the actual SAT writing questions. Get yourself acquainted with them. And lastly, good luck! :D

I am pretty sure all Ivy Leagues super-score. Super-scoring is something that the college does by its own discretion, so they don’t look down on it. Although, by human judgment, a 2400 on one try is better than a super-scored 2400. This should not discourage you; I’m sure the majority of Ivy League students did not get a 2400 or even a 2300+ on their first try. In general, a 2160-2240 is about 50% percentile. 2300+ is generally at least 75% percentile in the top Ivies. You are well in the range, and should not worry about retaking. Just don’t retake if you don’t study for it like you did last time–you don’t want your score to drop again.
