Okay I’m pretty sure this is one of the most random questions I’ve asked considering I didn’t even apply to Thatcher but what happens of one is allergic to horses or discovers they’re allergic to horses while at Thatcher considering that it is a graduation requirement to ride/take care of a horse?
I feel like maybe this is something you might want to consider or get tested for before starting at Thatcher.
@zeebee619 A perfectly valid question! We asked the Thacher admission rep, Tim Sullivan, that very question at our local BS fair last fall as he was touting the features of the school. He was flummoxed by the question and never really gave us an answer, just continued with his spiel. I would think you’d be able to opt out of the program if medically necessary but I’m not sure. DD never followed up or applied as it seems to be a cornerstone of the entire Thacher experience and didn’t seem to be a good fit as she is allergic to horses. :-q
Right, Thacher would not be the place to go if you were allergic to horses!
Someone asked exactly the same question while I was waiting for my son to finish his interview. (My son is a current junior at Thacher.) AD said they have had students who are/become allergic to horses and they have been able to complete the program with the help of medication. He also added that he couldn’t imagine Thacher would ask the student to leave the school if that kind of disability arises. As such, I would assume that the student who turns out to be allergic to horses AFTER they start the school may get an exemption and would not have to participate in the one-year mandatory horse program.
