yep, nice shiny star

Well that's something, she's quite unhappy that many of her grades went to a "B+" after finals. "Finals weren't worth that much in high school, Mom!" I knew this was coming, she did too, but the reality was something else again. I am grateful for what she has accomplished and happy she now knows more of what to expect for the "fluffy" semester.

B+... Still great.

Keeping in mind that the average freshman GPA is around 2.7 a B+ is great and probably puts her in the top third to top quarter of her class.

Congratulations to the cadets on the Superintendant's list!! If past practice is repeated they will be invited to a reception at the Carlon House hosted by General Regni and his wife. Our cadet was impressed with each one that he attended, they put on a very nice spread!

First, allow me to offer my sincere (and I really do mean that) congratulations to the parents of ANY cadet that has made the:

a. Supt's list
b. Dean's list
c. Athletic list
d. Commandant's list

ANY of these achievements is quite noteworthy and is worthy of a great big SMILE and continual congrat's to your cadet.

Second...as a graduate who spent MOST of his cadet career on the "anti-Dean's list" allow me to try to give a bit of perspective on what those accomplishments truly mean, at least to me.

Later in life I was sent to graduate school at a rather prestigious university in the western USA. I was petrified (and yes, I'd already flown in combat, been shot at, etc...etc...) and not a little worried about schooling, given my less than stellar USAFA experience.

I cruised through grad school with a 4.0 GPA.

Why? Because of all that I had learned at USAFA (yes, my old prof's at USAFA are probably rolling their eyes on that statement, convinced all I learned was how to read the AC PRO list).

The study skills, time management skills, etc., prepared me for commissioned service, and then when I hit grad school...okay, the topics were hard (I'm a geek engineer) however...it was a fun time, and I blew away the mean. NO, I'm not any smarter than I was at USAFA, I just think the adversity of USAFA better prepared me for ALL things difficult.

So again, CONGRATULATIONS to your "young-un's" for their outstanding achievements! It'll stand them VERY well for their futures!

That's inspirational!!!!

I hope to get at least one of those medals.

But wait...oh yeah I'm not even in yet!!!

But i got a nomiination to be a '13er. YAY!

These are pins we're talking about, not medals. The only medal you're looking at any time soon is the NDSM. Pins come and go every semester (or faster if you're put on probation).

07PETKO...

And once they've all graduated and gone "operational" the "...gee, I was there along with 100k plus other people" medals will accumulate on a semesterly basis as well. ;-)

But that's a topic for another thread!
