With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study.

What if I apply to 2 majors in the same school?

Also, premed is under "other" instead of a school..

If I'm applying to the School of Natural Sciences (as first choice and my binding school) for chemistry, I should talk about why I like premed?

hi guys, if i want to study both architecture and environmental science, should I write both how I love architecture and enviromental science ? maybe this sounds silly, but I have already wrote how I love architecture in one of supplement essays required for architecture applicant.
If I write again how I love architecure, okay, architecture @ Rice, does this feel like repetition? and will it bore AOs?

For the premed prospective, the "other" most likely refers to a major, rather than a school.
Thus, the prospective should just talk about Natural sciences in his case, or a school.
The schools are pretty much set in stone. There should be no "other."

alright thanks for clarifying i got confused but i wrote about why i wanted to major and why i wanted to attend the school so guess its all good now.

I’m applying for 2010 admission to Rice University. I’m not sure if anyone is still keeping an eye on this thread, but I want to ask a question regarding the topic “With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study.” In another essay on the Common Application, I chose to submit a “topic of your choice” essay. In that essay, I talked about wanting to be an Astrophysicist, work for NASA, etc (mostly my desire to be involved in research). In this essay, should I talk more about the interdisciplinary studies I want to be involved in under the Weiss School of Natural Sciences? Also, how long should it be? Thanks!

I was accepted ED this year. I applied as a bioengineering major with a pre-med interest. I didn’t write about the school at all, or the pre-med aspect of my application. I simply stated why I wanted to study engineering, and I think it may have been 200 words top. If your desire to attend a certain school of study is because of the school itself, then write about the school, if your desire stems from just an interest in that discipline then write about that.

I was accepted ED too and I checked the box for pre-med, biology/ecology and cell biology/biochemistry. I talked about both why I was interested in biology and why i was interested in pre-med.
