Supplement

So I have 2 essays written for the JHU supplement- one focuses on why I want to study BME (I’m applying for that) and the other on JHU and why I want to go there. Which one should I be focusing on?
Also, I gave 2 SAT subjects- Chem and Maths Level 2- 740 in chem, but 670 in maths level 2. It’s too late to retake anything- what should I do? Should I send my scores? How imp is it for BME?

which one answers the prompt more? I would guess the “why BME” one but I suggest you incorporate why JHU in it too… so it becomes a “why BME at JHU specifically” essay
also idk for sat 2 tests, but 670 for math II is probably risky to send imo…

Uhh you should probably focus on both… And in my opinion, don’t send Math 2 because you’re applying BME and a lot of people are basically sending in 800s. Send Chem though – it’s a pretty good score!!

Does anybody know JHU’s policy- does the bad score count against me, or does it just not add anything to my application? also, I gave both exams on the same day- how do you send only one? In any case, I put JHU in my list for 4 free score reports, so guess its already sent :frowning:

And I’ll try to incorporate both, its just the 2 start off very diferently and are very good in their own way- I might be able to put across why BME at JHU, but not speifically why JHU- because JHU would have been first on my list even without BME.

You NEED that sat 2 score for BME. I’m applying for it too, and I asked a JHU admissions rep at my school about it. She said it would hurt more to not send it at all than to send a poor score. Pretty sure that they say on their site that it’s STRONGLY recommended for any engineering applications to submit 2 sat2 tests. Without it, you are severely lacking something that all other engineering applicants have. See the problem?

Btw, I wrote my common app about BME, but my Hopkins supplement about how I’ve developed other academic interests through struggles and how JHU will foster all of that. I also saw on their site a BME applicant who wrote zero about BME on their sample essays page, so I’m sure however you wrote it will be fine

@fishgill : thanks bout the SAT score- I thought so too!
As for my supplement, I’ve already submitted it obv- it incorporates mostly why BME, and why JHU is a good fit for me. I wish I could’ve written more on my other academic interests, and how my experiences in life have helped me develop those- I’m interested in IR, creative writing, neuroscience, psych, music(Peabody!) but there was no space so  I just mentioned them all in a sentence, and how JHU has the best programs in everything I’m interested in. In better language, obv. Idk how it’ll look to adcoms.
Btw, the sample essay could’ve been the common app essay, in which case you’re not obliged to write about BME. They could’ve written about BME in their JHU essay (which was not posted) Just thought I’d mention it.
