A significant portion of my activities list is devoted to research at my local children’s hospital. For my JHU application, should I ask my research mentor to submit a supplemental letter of rec for me? Is it worth it or will it get tossed out?
It’s worth trying. Letters of rec don’t play a huge role in your application, but a good supplemental letter could push you over the top. Additionally, Hopkins is very research oriented and a letter from a research mentor could add some weight to your app.
JHU’s website says nothing about additional recs that I can find. Schools want what they ask for – if they don’t say optional additional recs are accepted, I’d skip it.
@intparent I talked to my local admissions counselor and he said that a recommender could submit a letter directly to JHU via email. Would that change your answer?
There is a saying – the thicker the file, the thicker the student.
