Supplementary Major vs. Major?

So I recently emailed my FYS advisor about the difference between a supplementary major and “normal” major for some degrees at ND and they didn’t really answer the question well. Does anyone know what the difference is other than not having as many requirements? Does the supplementary major make a difference when you graduate?

Thanks :slight_smile:

The College of Arts & Letters website describes it pretty well:
“A supplementary major is one that cannot stand alone in qualifying a student for an undergraduate degree but must be taken in conjunction with a primary major.”

It’s basically like a minor but with more requirements. Hope this helps!

@nd2018 I am looking at Finance and ACMS. Mendoza doesn’t offer supplementary majors, but ACMS is offered as a supplementary major - if I chose to do ACMS as a supplementary major would I end up just receiving a degree in Finance “with” the ACMS major - because if I did both as “full” majors I would receive two separate degrees if I am not mistaken.

@npswimmer44 I think you’re right and it would be treated more like a minor than a major but I’m not totally sure

@nd2018 Thanks so much! :slight_smile:
