Supplementary materials--how much is too much?

I know this has been discussed a lot here before, but I don't think it has been exactly the way I'm about to.

I'm mailing a large envelope with my 2 teachers' letters of recommendation (sealed, signed, and in separate envelopes--I haven't seen them, I'm just mailing them) and a 2-page activity and achievement sheet (I don't dare call it a resume anymore) to the colleges I'm applying to online.

I attended a highly competitive summer program this past July, and I received outstanding evaluations from it. The cover letter from the packet that I received with them said "We hope you use these evaluations as an integral part of your college application." Would it be too much to send these? (Three extra sheets of paper)

I also recently found out that I won the NCTE writing award. Should I bother sending the postcard in this packet as well? (The award is also mentioned on my activity and achievement sheet.)

I guess the bottom line is, how much is too much to send in? I'm not planning on any extra teacher/employer recs, music CDs, or artwork slides--is this still too much?

Thanks :)

A good rule of thumb is that your supplements should not be thicker than your application- so send what you have. I wouldn't bother sending the postcard if you wrote the award on your supplement.

nice, i've never thought of it that way before. thanks :)

What you are contemplating is not too much.

They say in the admissions offices of colleges, "The thicker the file, the thicker the applicant".

haha hmm...and by "thicker," do you mean "stupider," or perhaps "better rounded"?

maybe I'm "thicker" for not understanding, hahaha.

bumppppppp

wow i think that might be a little too much. personally i don't know. i am just submitting my research paper i worked on to some colleges, and not to others cuz they don't accept supplemental material.

what kind of essay did you do?
I'm not sure whether to send all of my research or just an abstract when applying. actually, im not even sure if i'm even sending anything b/c i dont know if my research is 'real research' as in, i ddint collect data or anything, i just took a reserach class in my school and did bibliographical research.
let me know what you think

For research, you send an abstract. What you did doesn't sound like research, though, unless you came to a new conclusion about something.

research has to be something where u discover something new. it might be insignificant, but it has to be new.

I would not send a post card saying you won anything. After your application is in, then you can write admissions a note and send it and say you recently received an award. Indicate what it is, and ask them to add the informaiton to your application.

is it ok to send copies of letters of recommendation or is that frowned upon? I hope so, because I don't really have multiple copies of each that I have.
