You sound like a wonderful mom to a great kid @Tbosmom. I look forward to hearing of your son’s decision. Is he still awaiting any offers?
Yes. He’s still waiting to hear from The University of Florida, The University of Illinois, Harvard (RD), and U of Michigan (deferred EA). He’s been accepted at Clemson, Auburn, and UVa Early Action. He wants to do some type of engineering but was not interested in the tech schools we visited.
If he has seen UVA, I would suspect that would be a strong option. Such a beautiful campus!
Good Luck!
Thanks! He loved UVA and so did we. He also loved Auburn, and they are offering a nice merit aid package. UF has instate tuition for us, so we are weighing all options.
@MsMommy, any chance you could share the categories and point system of your spreadsheet?! I love this idea!
Hi, @davenmame, well…it WAS my husband’s spreadsheet, but if I remember correctly, they did a financial aid spreadsheet, but independent of that, they made a sheet with everything that mattered (to him, not to us)…perceived strength of program, how much he LIKED the program, how much he liked the audition process and the people at the audition, how much he liked the campus, financial aid offered, weather, housing, semester abroad program, internship possibilities?, etc. then for each school he assigned a number for each category. For instance, strength of program was 3 points for very strong…2 points for fairly strong…1 points for not very strong…0 points for weak. Highest score “won” (although he retained the right to choose differently…LOL). Because we/he were a bit freaked out about the audition process, he applied to quite a few schools. In the end, he just needed to do this for his top 3 schools because he was really torn. I think my husband and I were pretty sure how it would play out, but it was very helpful for my son to see it on paper.
