During standardized testing, I violated procedure, which goes under academic integrity violation, and was thus suspended. However, there was no evidence that I cheated, and I stand by the fact that I did not cheat. I was accepted to a top 15 university ED. Will they rescind me? Also, the school report of the incident will be sent along with transcript later this summer. Should I self-report the incident now?
Well is this an ivy, and Did you actually cheat?
I think this is usually the type of thing you want to get ahead of so yes contact them, but have a discussion with your GC first and make sure you understand how this will be reported. Schools don’t want to rescind people but academic dishonesty is pretty serious, make sure you own what you did do and why the hell you did it.
I did not actually cheat. Thanks for the responses. my GC is encouraging me to self report.
Yep. Self-reporting is nearly always the best plan.
From what I have seen, academic dishonesty violations are sure to get you rescinded. But in this case, I violated test procedure but did not actually cheat, nor was my intention to do so. I was acting in a boneheaded and absent-minded manner, and when i realized my mistake, I made an impulsive decision not to alert the proctor, thus compounding my mistake. How do you think this will be viewed?
Based on your claims, I presume it will be reported as a violation and you should do same. However, if your school is categorizing it as cheating and you fail to follow suit, it will go worse for you.
The school is not characterizing it as cheating, but they are reporting it. They are saying it is a “testing procedure violation,” which does fall under Academic dishonesty.
Sounds something along the lines of you had your cell phone during the test. Yes, you should self report.
