Suspension (Forging). Please Help!

I was suspended for one day my junior year because I forged my algebra ii teacher's signature so that I could get into pre calc honors my senior year (it even said in my school's booklet that forging for the first offense is detention and the second offense is suspension; this was my first offense); i've learned from this j=huge mistake deeply. however, my transcript doesn't say that i got suspended and i dont think my guidance counselor checked yes or wrote an explanatory statement for the common app guidance counselor school report paper. i already sent out my files to the school by mail and it's winter break right now; i go back to school after new year's. what do i do? i don't know what to do about my counselor's report. and the deadline is jan 1st!

What schools are you applying to? It probably wont matter for most schools. Just be honest and write a statement of explanation.

I would go talk to your counselor after school starts. Chances are he/she said nothing and you need not do anything. If they did mention it, then yes, you need to send a brief explanation. Hopefully, as a first offense, your school followed their own rule and it’s over.

^
Check with your counselor and make sure its not on your records

it’s not on my transcript. but, the deadline is january 1st to submit applications and I go back to school on the 2nd so i want to verify. i dont know what to do… does anyone know someone who got suspended for forgery and got into a good school? some schools i’m applying to are bu,umass amherst, nyu, tufts, rochester, columbia, stanford, ramapo or tcnj. i also have low stats but my school grades are As and Bs and I’m 5th in my class. please share any miracle stories. thank you!

It would be a problem if the school reports it, but you don’t. Much less of a problem if you report it, and school doesn’t. It even could be to your advantage because it shows you have integrity, and are prepared to face the consequences. It also shows that you trust them to understand it was a lapse of judgement, you learned from it, and you are not trying to hide it.

If you disclose it, and put a statement about what happened in the extra information section of your application, they may look at it as insignificant, because your high school didn’t consider it significant enough to put on your permanent record.

you know, you’re right. thank you so much. however, would not my application be at a disadvantage because all the forms are supposed to go to the school by jan 1st and my counselor didn’t put the required statement on this on the common app counselor school report? what do i do?

Don’t worry about the GC’s report. You just answer all the questions on the app. The school won’t care if the GC’s report comes in after January 1.

So I should send them in again? Can I do it through mail?

Just make sure to let them know that you won’t do something like that at THEIR school.

also, i’m in national honor society

please, does anyone know of any miracle stories, especially for ivy league schools based on forging? and happy new years!

If you GC mentions the incident, he/she is unethical trash. It will prejudice you ANYWHERE.

Honestly, I would not mention it. If there a question have you ever been suspended from school you have to answer YES. If there is also a question as to why, you have to tell about it.

I think you should keep your mouth shut. Indeed, I like the way you handled the rules about Honors Precalculus. A one day suspension is not a big deal. Forgery is not any crime if it doesn’t involve the intent to defraud someone of money. However, many people think that it is; so you should shut up.

the deadline is today, and i know that it is the moral thing to do. honestly, when i looked at my school booklet regarding conduct, it said that the first offense for forgery was a saturday detention but i was given a suspension? does anyone know of any miracle stories of people who got suspended for forging and got into ivys? Please

“i know that it is the moral thing to do”

You’re crazy! I’ve been to two Ivy universities undergrad and grad. I’d shut up.

“it said that the first offense for forgery was a saturday detention but i was given a suspension”

More reason to shut up because you should have had detention and should NOT have been suspended. If GC says you were suspended and not mention that it was an error on school’s part, he’s doing something wrong.

but i dont know maybe she thought, oh, i’m the principal and i can change it whenevr i want based on what i think u deserve. i dont know im scared

oh wait, that was the booklet for the year before. i dont know about the booklet the year of the incident (last year) but im seeing on my school website that for this year under forgery, it said that the first offense is inschool susp. and first and second offense are out of school so i guess…-.- since u went to an ivy, do u know of anyone there who got suspended for forgery in high school? do u think i have a chance? i mean, i have a 1780 sat score and will be taking sat 2s this month. any chance at all? i mean i read about that they would appreciate honesty and sometimes admit those students but i have a feeling that it’s impossible this year b/c there r so many qualified students who didnt get suspended and have higher scores… some schools im applying to r harvard, stanford, columbia, tufts, umass amherst,bu,nyu, rochester.

If that SAT score is out of 2400 I don’t think that your one day of suspension is what would keep you out of Harvard…

You would be lucky to get into BU
You would probably get into Umass

I have no doubt you would be rejected from the rest.
