Suspension record

I've been collecting all the essay topics/questions so that I could start writing up my essays.

Then I came across this one (below)

"Have you ever been found responsible for any disciplinary violation at an educational institution you have attended from the 9th grade forward (or the international equivalent), whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct that resulted in your probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution? If you answered yes to either or both questions, please upload a letter that gives the approximate date of each incident, explains the circumstances, and reflects on what you learned."

and got stuck. I have a suspension record, and it's not that... pretty.

I was new to the school in grade 9, but the school was from grade 7 to 9 so everyone knew each other... except for me. And this guy started bullying me online, and I told my guidance counsellor, but the school didn't do much about it (... yes, no bullying, consequences of bullying, it all turned out to be BS). He then started spreading rumours and I was angry... not only at him but well, kinda at the school, at everything. So when one of my friends brought the Death Note, I jumped at it and wrote the name of the bully (...and how I wanted him to die) without thinking about what might happen afterwards.

The consequence turned out to be suspension.

I know that I'll have to be honest and be straightforward, but I'm kind of worried that my ugly history would be a push factor and not get me into any of the colleges that I'm applying to :(

Will this totally screw me up?

Unless you’re applying to the most selective of universities they probably wouldn’t care. Most universities hardly consider your 9th grade scores or other things from 9th grade.

I am applying to some of the top universities… does this mean that I have no chance at getting into them?

Not at all. They most likely won’t consider this event, as it happened in 9th grade. For example, Stanford University doesn’t take your freshman year into account.

Thank you so much - I was getting so worked up about this… staring at the topic brought back the bad memories and almost made me cry. Now I feel much better that my future isn’t just thrown into the abysmal darkness.
